To accelerate the transition to a clean energy economy in the Northwest by advancing economic deep decarbonization strategies.
In 2019, the Clean Energy Transition Institute accomplished the following: (1) developed and released in partnership with Evolved Energy Research a Northwest Deep Decarbonization Pathways (NWDDP) study to inform policymaking on how to get the four states of the Northwest (WA, OR, MT, and ID) on the path to a low-carbon future by 2050; (2) briefed well over 500 stakeholders in a variety of forums on the NWDDP results, attracting the attention of key decision-makers at the national and regional levels of government, business, advocacy, utilities, regulators, and universities; (3) held four convenings for Northwest stakeholders, including a consortium of 11 consumer-owned electric utilities, 10 in WA and one in OR, Washington State Governor Jay Inslee?s climate and clean energy policy and agency staff, the King County-City Climate Collaboration, and a standing-room-only group from Washington State?s research universities, utilities, clean tech business and investor com, a unities, and advocacy groups; (4) presented the NWDDP results to Montana Governor Steve Bullock?s Climate Solutions Council, a diverse group of community leaders whom the Governor has charged with setting decarbonization targets and making policy recommendations for how Montana can get on a path to deep decarbonization.
