Organizations Filed Purposes: WE PROTECT, CONNECT AND RESTORE WILDLANDS AND WILDLIFE FROM WASHINGTON COAST TO THE BRITISH COLUMBIA ROCKIES.

PROTECT AND CONNECT OLD GROWTH FORESTS AND OTHER WILD AREAS FROM THE WASHINGTON COAST TO THE BC ROCKIES: VITAL TO A HEALTHY FUTURE FOR US, OUR CHILDREN, AND WILDLIFE.

PROTECTING WILDLANDS: THIS PROGRAM FOCUSES ON PRESERVING LARGE BLOCKS OF HABITAT, INCLUDING FOREST, SAGELAND, AND GENERAL WILDLANDS, AS CORNERSTONES OF ECOLOGICAL RESILIENCE AND FOR LONG-TERM SURVIVAL AND RECOVERY OF IMPERILED WILDLIFE. IN THE PAST YEAR, WE COLLABORATED WITH DIVERSE INTERESTS TO ADVANCE SCIENCE-DRIVEN OUTCOMES ON FORESTRY PROJECTS ON STATE AND FEDERAL LANDS AND THE POLICIES UNDER WHICH THEY ARE FORMULATED.

HABITAT CONNECTIVITY: THIS PROGRAM IS WHERE CNW IS MOST DISTINGUISHED. WE'VE SUCCESSFULLY PROTECTED VITAL WILDLIFE CORRIDORS AND RECONNECTED HABITAT BETWEEN WASHINGTON'S NORTH CASCADES AND MOUNTAIN WILDLANDS TO ITS NORTHWEST, NORTHEAST, SOUTH, AND WEST. THIS YEAR WE PURCHASED AND RESOLD (AS PROTECTED) A KEY PROPERTY IN THE LINKAGE BETWEEN THE CASCADES AND KETTLE MOUNTAINS, AND SPENT OUR OWN TIME AND MONEY MAKING A STRETCH OF HIGHWAY 97 NEAR THERE MORE PASSABLE FOR WILDLIFE. OUR NEW SAGELANDS HERITAGE AND CASCADES TO OLYMPICS PROGRAMS CAME INTO FULL FLOURISH, WITH NEW RELATIONSHIPS, ESTABLISHED PRIORITIES ON THE GROUND, AND MAJOR STEPS TO PROTECTING KEY HABITATS. WE ALSO MADE GREAT IMPROVEMENTS IN HABITAT PERMEABILITY IN THE CENTRAL CASCADES THROUGH REMOVING DAMAGING ROADS AND CAUSING FOREST ACRES TO BE RESTORED AND CONTINUED WORK TO LIMIT DISRUPTING VEHICLE ACCESS IN KEY HABITAT FOR GRIZZLY BEARS IN SW BC.

RESTORING WILDLIFE: THROUGH THIS PROGRAM WE CHAMPION RETURN OF KEY ANIMAL SPECIES WHILE BUILDING GREATER SOCIAL TOLERANCE TO SAFEGUARD THEIR LONG-TERM RECOVERY. THIS PAST YEAR, WE SERVED AS A MEMBER OF WASHINGTON'S WOLF ADVISORY GROUP AND PARTICIPATED IN THE COLLABORATIVE PROCESS TO UPDATE OUR STATE'S PROTOCOL FOR WOLF-LIVESTOCK INTERACTIONS. OUR DIRECT ENGAGEMENT WITH RANCHERS IN WOLF COUNTRY HAS HELPED KEEP CONFLICT BETWEEN WOLVES AND LIVESTOCK TO A MINIMUM. THIS YEAR ALSO SAW A FISHER CROSSING THE I-90 CORRIDOR BETWEEN THE POPULATIONS WE ESTABLISHED IN THE NORTH AND CENTRAL CASCADES, AND WOLVERINE REPRODUCTION WAS DOCUMENTED IN MT. RAINIER NATIONAL PARK FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MANY DECADES. WE ALSO FOSTERED RESEARCH CRITICAL TO UPCOMING REINTRODUCTION OF LYNX INTO WASHINGTON'S KETTLE MOUNTAIN RANGE.
