VISITING PROGRAMS WELCOME GROUPS OF INTERNATIONAL VISITORS TO THE PUGET SOUND REGION AND PROVIDE TRAINING IN LEADERSHIP, COMMUNICATION, SERVICE, AND DIPLOMACY. FIUTS HOSTED A TOTAL OF 104 VISITORS THROUGH THESE PROGRAMS IN 2019/2020, FROM 17 COUNTRIES.
STUDENT PROGRAMS SUPPORT AND ENGAGE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON STUDENTS AND SCHOLARS FROM THE U.S. AND AROUND THE WORLD. SPECIFIC PROGRAMS INCLUDE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ORIENTATION, WHICH PROVIDED TRANSITION SUPPORT AND COMMUNITY BUILDING FOR MORE THAN 2,500 NEW STUDENTS IN 2019/2020. EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES PROMOTE CROSS-CULTURAL ENGAGEMENT AND EXPLORATION THROUGH MORE THAN 150 SOCIAL EVENTS, ATTENDED BY MORE THAN 1,900 INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS. LEADERSHIP PROGRAMMING PROVIDES TRAINING AND SUPPORT TO MORE THAN 300 STUDENT VOLUNTEERS EACH YEAR, WHO SERVE AS COMMUNITY BUILDERS AND PEER MENTORS.
HOMESTAY AND COMMUNITY PROGRAMS CONNECT VISITING INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS WITH LOCAL HOSTS FOR SHORT-TERM HOMESTAYS TO PROMOTE CULTURAL EXCHANGE AND UNDERSTANDING. APPROXIMATELY 200 STUDENTS TOOK PART IN THE HOMESTAY PROGRAM IN 2019/2020, ALONG WITH MORE THAN 250 OTHER PARTICIPANTS IN NON-HOSTED PROGRAMS THAT CONNECT STUDENTS FOR MEALS OR OTHER EXPERIENCES.
