Organizations Filed Purposes:
GROW builds healthy and diverse communities by fostering community gardens, urban farms and green space. This is accomplished through public engagement, partnerships, leadership development, advocacy and acquiring open spaces for community gardens.
GROW serves as fiscal sponsor of fifty three community gardens that are engaged in seventy two different projects that align with the mission and vision of the organization. GROW accepts and is responsible for grant monies and other donations received on behalf of a community garden or gardening project. GROW is responsible for ensuring the accurate accounting of all gifts, grants, payables, obligations and disbursements and that reporting requirements are met.
GROW works to increase the number of P-Patch community gardens through an array of advocacy activities. GROW provides liability insurance to the city-wide network of p-patch gardens. GROW is committed to helping low income people to garden and provides gardeners with financial support (i.e., paying P-Patch plot fees and providing seeds and tools for shared use). GROW encourages gardeners to grow food for the hungry, either by contributing some of their own organic produce or by helping with the P-Patch garden plots designated for growing food and feeding programs. GROW is a member of Food Resource Network Federation (FRNF). FRNF was formed by area food providers seeking to move beyond the band-aid response to people trying to meet to meet their food needs. GROW's education mission is carried out through publication of the P-Patch Post, a newsletter that provides seasonal gardening tips, recipes and stories about inspirational gardeners.
