HSDC is a Western Washington service hub for clients who are deaf, hard of hearing, or who face communication barriers. We envision an inclusive, accessible world, where everyone is understood and respected.

Interpreting Services: On-site and remote American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting is provided to 1,000 customers including, elementary and secondary schools, colleges and universities, health care providers, government agencies, the legal system, corporations, small businesses, nonprofits and the arts. Interpreting Services contracts with certified, qualified interpreters and specializes in high quality customer service, matching the right sign language interpreter to each situation. This HSDC program provides additional benefits to the community allowing HSDC to be a more complete full service agency for people who are deaf and hard of hearing. It has opened new opportunities for affordable interpreting for the nonprofit sector. This program allows the agency to serve more people and organizations and serve them more fully.

Others: Infant Program (Ed), Rosen Pre-school (Ed): HSDCs Parent-Infant Program (PIP) is a birth to three service providing free parental support and coaching for the families of Deaf, DeafBlind, and hard of hearing toddlers. Families in King, Pierce, and Snohomish Counties are eligible to receive services.PIP uses a bilingual/bicultural approach that emphasizes language acquisition in both American Sign Language (ASL) and English. While enrolled in PIP, families will develop their ASL skills to create a nurturing, language-accessible home for their Deaf or hard of hearing toddler.Rosen Family Preschool is a program for children ages 3-5 that emphasizes both American Sign Language (ASL) and English, giving children a bilingual language foundation that lasts a lifetime. We have a classroom dedicated to Deaf and hard of hearing students, as well as an ASL immersion classroom for other students whose families have made a commitment to using ASL in the home. All instruction is conducted in ASL.

Deaf Services: Provided advocacy services to 3,767 individuals from three office locations (Seattle, Tacoma, Bellingham). This program provides advocacy services, information and referral, training and education and support for individuals who are deaf, deaf-blind or hard of hearing. In addition, the program trains businesses, community groups, schools, local and state government agencies, landlords, and other services in the community on providing appropriate accessibility and support for their disabled clients and customers. Through the Seattle, Tacoma and Bellingham offices, these services are provided to 13 counties in Western Washington. The Bellingham office also provides a Family Program with sign language classes, communication strategies, etc. This work is done on a local, statewide and national level.
