Organizations Filed Purposes: THE HEPATITIS EDUCATION PROJECT IS COMMITTED TO PROVIDING SUPPORT, EDUCATION, ADVOCACY AND DIRECT SERVICES FOR PEOPLE AFFECTED BY HEPATITIS AND TO HELPING RAISE HEPATITIS AWARENESS AMONG PATIENTS, MEDICAL PROVIDERS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

THE HEPATITIS EDUCATION PROJECT (HEP) IS COMMITTED TO IMPROVING HEALTH OF UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES DISPROPORTIONATELY IMPACTED BY VIRAL HEPATITIS.

VIRAL HEPATITIS EDUCATION, TESTING, LINKAGE TO CARE, AND CORRECTIONAL HEALTH:HEP PROVIDES EDUCATION TO CLIENTS, PROVIDERS, AND ORGANIZATIONS, FREE HEPATITIS C AND B TESTING, LINKAGE TO CARE, AND FREE HEPATITIS A/B VACCINATION. IN 2019, HEP TESTED 1,944 PEOPLE FOR HEPATITIS C AND 397 PEOPLE FOR HEPATITIS B, ADMINISTERED 364 DOSES OF HEPATITIS A/B VACCINE, ADMINISTERED 131 MONOVALENT HEPATITIS A VACCINE, ADMINISTERED 87 DOSES OF MONOVALENT HEPATITIS B VACCINE, AND HAD OVER 4,414 ENCOUNTERS WITH HEP'S MEDICAL CASE MANAGEMENT. HEP ALSO FACILITATES CLASSES ON HEPATITIS, BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS, AND HARM REDUCTION FOR PRISONS AND JAILS THROUGHOUT WASHINGTON STATE. IN 2019, HEP PROVIDED CLASSES FOR 1,724 INCARCERATED PERSONS LIVING IN WA STATE PRISONS.

DRUG USER HEALTH:HEP RUNS A SYRINGE SERVICE PROGRAM (SSP) AND PARTNERSHIP WITH A LOCAL FQHC AND A BEHAVIORAL HEALTH ORGANIZATION TO PROVIDE MEDICATIONS FOR OPIOID USE DISORDER TREATMENT (MOUD) LOCATED IN THE HEP OFFICE. IN 2019 BOTH PROGRAMS WERE OPENED TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY 1-5PM TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND DURING HEP'S OFFICE HOURS FOR OUR MEDICAL CASE MANAGEMENT CLIENTS. HEP ALSO, WORKED WITH ENCAMPMENTS TO PROVIDE HARM REDUCTION. IN 2019 HEP DISTRIBUTED 427,651 STERILE SYRINGES THROUGH SSP AND 4,654 DOSES OF NALOXONE, AN OPIOID-OVERDOSE REVERSAL MEDICATION. MOUD HAD 125 INDUCTIONS IN 2019.

NATIONAL, STATE, AND LOCAL POLICY ADVOCACY:HEP MANAGES THE NATIONAL HEPATITIS CORRECTIONS NETWORK (NHCN) AND THE NATIONAL VIRAL HEPATITIS ROUNDTABLE (NVHR). THE NETWORKS ARE NATIONAL COALITIONS OF MEDICAL PROVIDERS, ADMINISTRATORS, RESEARCHERS, COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS, AND OTHER PUBLIC HEALTH ADVOCATES WORKING TOGETHER TO INCREASE ACCESS TO HEPATITIS PREVENTION, TESTING AND TREATMENT IN CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES, AND TO ELIMINATE HEPATITIS B AND C IN THE UNITED STATES. IN 2019, NVHR HOSTED A PATIENT SUMMIT IN ATLANTA WHERE 107 ADVOCATES FROM 34 STATES MET TO IMPROVE PUBLIC HEALTH RESPONSE TO VIRAL HEPATITIS AND NHCN HOSTED THEIR ANNUAL CONFERENCE WITH OVER 80 PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE.
