THE MUSEUM OF HISTORY AND INDUSTRY (MOHAI) IS TREASURED LOCALLY AND RESPECTED NATIONALLY AS A VIBRANT RESOURCE WHERE HISTORY INSPIRES PEOPLE TO BE THEIR BEST, INDIVIDUALLY AND COLLECTIVELY. THE MUSEUM IS LOCATED IN LAKE UNION PARK IN SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.MOHAI IS THE LARGEST PRIVATE HERITAGE ORGANIZATION IN THE STATE OF WASHINGTON. BY COLLECTING AND PRESERVING ARTIFACTS AND STORIES OF THE PUGET SOUND REGION'S DIVERSE HISTORY, MOHAI HIGHLIGHTS THE REGION'S TRADITION OF INNOVATION AND IMAGINATION. THROUGH COMPELLING EXHIBITS, SCHOLARSHIP, EDUCATION, PUBLIC PROGRAMS, AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, MOHAI BRIDGES THE PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE.
MOHAI'S OFFERINGS FOR YOUTH INCLUDE ON-SITE MUSEUM FIELD TRIPS, ARTIFACT TRUNK RENTALS, IN-CLASS PROGRAMS, TEACHER TRAININGS, AND ONLINE LESSON PLANS TO HELP TEACHERS INTRODUCE STUDENTS TO LOCAL HISTORY, AS WELL AS SUMMER CAMPS FOR KIDS. MOHAI'S OFFERINGS FOR ADULTS AND FAMILIES INCLUDE GUIDED PROGRAMS IN THE MUSEUM AND IN SEATTLE NEIGHBORHOODS, AS WELL AS LECTURES AND TALKS ON LOCAL HISTORY, AND SEASONAL FESTIVITIES AND PROGRAMS IN THE MUSEUM'S LAKESIDE SETTING IN LAKE UNION PARK. VISITORS TO LAKE UNION PARK ARE WELCOMED FREE OF CHARGE TO MOHAI'S RESTROOMS, CAFETERIA, AND RETAIL SHOP THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
DURING 2020 AND 2019, THE MUSEUM WELCOMED OVER 35,000 AND 115,000 VISITORS, RESPECTIVELY, INCLUDING 8,000 AND 28,000 STUDENTS, RESPECTIVELY, ENGAGED IN THE MUSEUM'S EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, AND THOUSANDS OF SPECIAL EVENT ATTENDEES. NEARLY 60% OF MUSEUM ATTENDEES ENJOYED THE MUSEUM FREE OF CHARGE OR AT A DISCOUNTED RATE, INCLUDING FREE ADMISSION EVERY DAY FOR ALL YOUNG PEOPLE UNDER 15 AND DISCOUNTS FOR STUDENTS, MILITARY PERSONNEL AND SENIORS. SINCE THE LAUNCH OF THE BEZOS CENTER FOR INNOVATION, OVER 720,000 VISITORS HAVE EXPLORED HOW INNOVATION SHAPED OUR REGION AND CHANGED OUR WORLD. MOHAI CONTINUED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE TEENTIX, MUSEUMS FOR ALL AND SEATTLE PUBLIC LIBRARY MUSEUM PASS PROGRAMS, AND NEARLY 2,500 VISITORS TOOK ADVANTAGE OF MOHAI'S MONTHLY FREE FIRST THURSDAY PROGRAMS IN 2020. FINALLY, IN 2020 NEARLY 115,000 ADDITIONAL INDIVIDUALS ENGAGED WITH THE MUSEUM VIRTUALLY VIA ONLINE PROGRAMS AND EXHIBITS AVAILABLE FREE OF CHARGE. THESE ONLINE OFFERINGS WERE MADE AVAILABLE AS A RESULT OF THE MUSEUM CLOSING IN MID-MARCH 2020 IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19.
