The Global Leadership Academy (GLA) encompasses all of iLEAP fully online/distance programs. The GLA was created due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the programs are for high school students, college-aged students, and young professionals. These participants can join GLA programs from anywhere in the world. GLA programs are fully online, but maintain the same experiential learning principles as our in-person programs. In 2020, the GLA was created in spring/summer and our first participants joined in September 2020 with programs throughout the fall.
Global Leadership Abroad encompasses all of our in-person programs, which were severed impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the pandemic, we were forced to cancel all 2020 programming, starting in March 2020. In fact, we had to end a March program early due to the fast spread of the COVID-19 virus in Washington state. This was very unfortunate as we had a number of programs lined up for summer 2020, including a number of large enrollments in partnership with Western Washington University. Nevertheless, the in-person programs that we were able to do in Feb and March 2020 were very successful and continued to advance our mission. As of December 31, 2020, iLEAP has over 650 alumni in East Asia with a majority in Japan.
Perennial is the evolution of iLEAP Global which consisted of the formally known, iLEAP International Fellowship. This was leadership development programming for community-based leaders working in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East. In 2020, Perennial served over 100 leaders through various programs that, as of April 2020, were also pushed online. In February 2020, Perennial held its in-person, two-week, Perennial Fellowship for 15 leaders from all over the world.
