Organizations Filed Purposes:
Our mission is to help Washington state girls* in adverse situations thrive and have meaningful futures. *Girls refers to gender expansive youth (cis girls, trans girls, non-binary youth, gender non-conforming youth, gender queer youth and any girl-identified youth).
Model Programs: Our One Girl Many Systems (OGMS) model program, is in its 3nd year of partnering with community stakeholders across systems. The Washington state team has provided data, in-person convenings, and webinars on the topic and held an advisory group meeting where members identified issues and provided recommendations to benefit girls in Pierce county. The community driven effort created a Blueprint for Action in Pierce, which outlines scalable solutions -- girl centered programs and trainings, for instance -- designed to lead to improve girls health and well-being and ensure a reduction in court contact.
Training & Assessment: We hosted our sixth state-wide summit, Beyond Pink: Preventing Gender-based Violence, once again drawing an at-capacity crowd with attendees representing ten counties and multiple sectors including education, child welfare, juvenile justice and more. We provided a training for attendees on girl-centered, race equity best practices for preventing gender-based violence. Youth Program & Training Specialists co-facilitated a Town Hall to present the Girls, Violence & Mental Health Issue Brief, and also helped co-facilitate a training on Advocating for Girls in Local Budgets.
Legislative Policy Advocacy & Advocacy Programming: We pushed for Washingtons mandatory offering of comprehensive sexual health education in schools and an expansion of Safe Harbors legislation to ensure girls who are victims of sex trafficking have access to a broader range of services. We provided testimony at a public hearing, published a Seattle Times Op-Ed on the issue and created a Girls, Violence & Mental Health Fact Sheet. We also launched three girls advocacy groups, and continued to provide member groups consisting of stakeholders across multiple systems and regions with an opportunity to shape legislative priorities that would benefit Washington state girls in the 2021 session.
