EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATIONS and TRAININGS. The Koshka Foundation presented 48 in-person trainings in 2019, in addition to webinars and virtual learning. Presentations reached students, teachers, school administrators, parents and emergency preparedness planners in K-12 and higher education, law enforcement and first responders, community members and workplace safety stakeholders in sixteen states. Audiences gained an understanding of how to be proactive in their community's safety and prevention plans, what types of events to report to local authorities, what to do in case of an active threat and how to build plans for recovery.
SURVIVOR OUTREACH. Koshka Foundation fosters development and peer-to-peer connection for survivors of mass violence to share experiences and perspectives in personal recovery and healing following mass trauma. The foundation supports a Survivors Speakers Bureau to empower survivors to develop educational presentations to share their experiences and bring about a broader understanding of the survivor experience to inform the work of victim's rights advocates, law enforcement, mental health professionals, safety and security leaders and public health researchers in trauma and violence prevention.
THREAT ASSESSMENT TRAINING. Grounded in research, threat assessment and threat management are recognized as the current best practices for preventing targeted school-based violence, as well as workplace violence and campus violence. The Koshka Foundation is working to develop online resources to better educate communities about how to create threat assessment teams.
