Organizations Filed Purposes:
The Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust leads and inspires action to conserve and enhance the landscape of the Mountains to Sound Greenway, ensuring a long-term balance between people and nature.
Stewardship: Each year, Greenway Trust volunteers and sponsored AmeriCorps members donate more than 20,000 hours of service to outdoor trail and ecological restoration projects and assist with planting more than 40,000 native trees and shrubs. Ecological restoration, emphasizing riparian habitat and water quality improvements occurs across the landscape, maintaining more than 400 acres of ecological restoration with new projects coming online each year. Greenway Trust crews completed wildland trail maintenance on more than 60 miles of trails and completed more than $700,000 in recreational improvements including the completion of the Garfield Ledges Trail.
Education & Engagement: The Greenway Education Program teaches more than 3,000 King County students per year in classrooms and on field study trips to Tiger Mountain and partners with King County on the Clean Water Ambassador Internship Program, providing high school interns the opportunity to gain valuable experience and connect with environmental professionals. The Greenway Trust's collaborative Savor Snoqualmie effort highlights the amenities, recreational opportunities and local businesses of the Snoqualmie Valley. And, Greenway Trust staff continue organizing guided hikes and bike ride tours for hundreds of participants of the Greenway landscape.
Conservation and Priority Initiatives: The Greenway Trust serves as the coordinating entity for the recently designated Mountains to Sound National Heritage Area and is in the process of developing an NHA interpretive and management plan. The Greenway Trust maintains a comprehensive list of priority land acquisitions through the Greenway NHA and facilitates land transactions between willing sellers and buyers. The Greenway Trust is an active participant in land use and land management discussions, and actively pursues funding opportunities to fill in regional trail gaps. The Greenway Trust also facilitates recreation and conservation forums in the Upper Yakima and Snoqualmie basins.
