OVERALL PROGRAM. In 2019 the New Roots Fund met its mission of providing business education through classes of approximately 15 individual entrepreneurs held twice each quarter. During these classes the basics of business development and planning were described and discussed. Most graduates of the training produced a simple business plan and various kinds of cash flow charts. The fund made 45 loans and by the end of 2019 and had a loan portfolio of 88 loans. Loans were made to businesses in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties. In addition to loans, NRF opened 50 Individual development accounts to help refugees save for a business start or expansion and receive grants of up to $4,000 to match their savings. Also in 2019 the Organization benefited from the work of volunteers with business experience who provided one-on-one help to our clients to develop business plans and cash flow charts. Volunteers also assisted with translation during training classes held at the Burien Community Center on weekends twice each quarter.
