Organizations Filed Purposes:
The NW Energy Coalition is an alliance of more than 100 environmental, civic and human service organizations, progressive utilities, and businesses in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and British Columbia. We promote development of renewable energy and energy efficiency, consumer protection, low-income energy assistance, and fish and wildlife restoration on the Columbia and Snake rivers.
The NW Energy Coalition advocates for clean and affordable energy. In policy venues throughout the northwest, we promote energy efficiency, renewable energy, consumer protection, low-income energy programs, and fish and wildlife restoration in the Columbia River Basin.
POLICY: The Coalition engages in in-depth policy analysis and advocacy on a wide range of energy policy issues at the utility, state, regional and federal level. We convene disparate voices and perspectives to engage in dialogue, come to a common understanding and move forward with a shared solution. Our policy work advances utility and government energy efficiency and renewable energy programs, including building codes, equipment standards, low-income and equity-focused energy programs, distributed generation, renewable energy portfolio standards, and coal plant retirement strategies. Policy work analyzes utility regulatory issues including rate design, utility business models, electrification of transportation, and the energy system impacts of operational changes to the hydroelectric dams in the Columbia River basin.
OUTREACH: The NW Energy Coalition hosts on two Clean & Affordable Energy conferences per year. These events bring together diverse players and perspectives engaged in clean energy and climate issues in the Northwest. We provide ongoing outreach and education to our approximately 100 organizational members and our many individual members in order to keep them informed and engaged in advancing clean and renewable energy policy in the region.
COMMUNICATIONS: The organization issues regular communications via alerts, press releases, fact sheets and newsletters. These communications present the latest clean energy and climate policy developments affecting individual Northwest states and the region as a whole, including information on energy efficiency, renewable energy, consumer/low-income issues, and protection of fish and wildlife imperiled by the power system. More in-depth analyses are presented via white papers and special publications.
