Organizations Filed Purposes: In downtown Seattle, the Pike Market Senior Center strives to make each day better and safer for older adults. The Pike Market Food Bank serves people of all ages who face hunger. Together, we provide services, activities and support that lead to more self-sufficient and fulfilling lives.

Senior Center serves the needs of the older, low-income population of the Pike Place Market and Downtown Seattle neighborhoods. Food Bank assists those struggling with hunger.

The Pike Market Food Bank (PMFB) serves over 5,000 individuals in downtown Seattle, supplementing food security for a diverse population of low-income and homeless clients. Unique among the region's food banks, PMFB serves a majority senior clientele. The Pike Market Food Bank distributes over 1 million pounds of free groceries each year during approximately 50,000 client visits and home deliveries.

The Pike Market Senior Center offers a range of services to promote healthy aging. The Center hosts around 50,000 client visits per year. Over 90% of the seniors are low-income and nearly half are homeless. Clients can access one-on-one social work assistance and a range of health-promoting and socializing activities like exercise and art classes, dancing, films, field trips, and senior/student projects. All these services and activities are offered free of charge.

The Meals Program of the Pike Market Senior Center provides over 50,000 free, nutritious breakfasts and lunches to older adults annually. Meals are served seven days per week. Many of the Pike Market Senior Center's clients have little or no income, are homeless, or live alone. These are factors that contribute to poor nutrition and social isolation. To address these issues, we serve meals in a congregate setting and focus on the nutritional content of the menu. The menu is developed with a registered dietitian to ensure that each meal provides 1/3 of the RDA of seven macro-nutrients recommended for older adults (protein, fiber, calcium and Vitamins A, C, B6 and B12). Additionally, all meals contain less than 1/3 of the RDA of sodium, sugar and fat.
