PUGET SOUND SAGE COMBINES RESEARCH, INNOVATIVE PUBLIC POLICY AND ORGANIZING TO ENSURE ALL PEOPLE HAVE AN AFFORDABLE PLACE TO LIVE, A GOOD JOB, A CLEAN ENVIRONMENT, AND ACCESS TO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION.
PUGET SOUND SAGE WAS FORMED TO PROVIDE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, RESEARCH, AND TRAINING RELATED TO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT TO COMMUNITY GROUPS.
EQUITABLE DEVELOPMENT - -THE EQUITABLE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM ADVOCATES FOR AND SUPPORTS POLICIES, PRACTICES AND COALITIONS THAT PROMOTE COMMUNITY ASSET BUILDING, COMMUNITY STEWARDSHIP OF LAND AND COMMUNITY RESOURCES AND PROMOTES EQUITABLE GROWTH WITHOUT COMMUNITY AND CULTURAL DISPLACEMENT -IN 2019, WE CONVENED SEVEN COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS AS THE GRAHAM STREET COMMUNITY ACTION TEAM (CAT), A LEADERSHIP BODY FOR EQUITABLE TRANSIT-ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT AROUND THE GRAHAM STREET LIGHT RAIL STATION IN SOUTH SEATTLE. THE CAT MET WITH LOCAL ELECTED OFFICIALS AND HAD THEIR COMMUNITY VISION OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZED BY LOCAL GOVERNMENT. -WITH OUR SOUTHCORE COALITION OF SOUTH SEATTLE BASED ORGANIZATIONS, WE ADVOCATED TO PROTECT 5 MILLION IN DEDICATED REVENUE FOR THE CITY OF SEATTLE'S EQUITABLE DEVELOPMENT FUND AND 15M IN REVENUE FOR A NEW EQUITABLE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIC ACQUISITION FUND THAT WILL HELP COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS GET SITE CONTROL FOR THEIR DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS. -OUR COMMUNITY REAL ESTATE STEWARDSHIP TRAINING PROGRAM TRAINED 20 LEADERS FROM COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS IN MODELS OF COMMUNITY LAND OWNERSHIP, REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS, FINANCE AND FUNDRAISING TO ADVANCE THEIR COMMUNITY-LED DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS.
CLIMATE JUSTICE - OUR CLIMATE JUSTICE PROGRAM CONDUCTED COMMUNITY-BASED RESEARCH TO UNDERSTAND ENERGY POLICY PRIORITIES OF COMMUNITIES OF COLOR AND LOW-INCOME HOUSEHOLDS. WE CONDUCTED 383 SURVEYS, 30 INTERVIEWS AND HOSTED 7 LISTENING SESSIONS TO GATHER COMMUNITY FEEDBACK. WE PREPARED A REPORT OF OUR RESEARCH FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND ELECTED OFFICIALS, TO BE FORMALLY PUBLISHED IN 2020.
COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP - WE TRAINED 17 NEW FELLOWS IN OUR COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE, A SIX- MONTH FELLOWSHIP THAT TRAINS EMERGING LEADERS IN ISSUES SUCH AS HOUSING, LAND USE, TRANSIT, CLIMATE, AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. GRADUATES LEARNED THE NUTS AND BOLTS OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT PROCESSES, SUCH AS MUNICIPAL BUDGETING, PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURES, AND LAWMAKING, AS WELL AS ADVOCACY, STORYTELLING, AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS. 69% OF GRADUATES CURRENTLY SERVE ON BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS AT THE CITY, COUNTY, AND STATE LEVEL.
