SEATTLE AUDUBON ADVOCATES AND ORGANIZES FOR CITIES WHERE PEOPLE AND BIRDS THRIVE.
ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION -SEATTLE AUDUBON'S ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS CONNECT WITH MORE THAN 1,000 CHILDREN AND ADULTS EACH YEAR. SPECIFICALLY, THE PROGRAMS INCLUDE:1. PLACE-BASED, NATURE EDUCATION PROGRAMS IN 10 SEATTLE PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS WITH CURRICULAR MATERIAL OFFERED TO TEACHERS ACROSS THE REGION, 2. MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL BIRDING PROGRAM, INCLUDING IN-FIELD EDUCATION AND FIELD TRIPS, 3. ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAM, INCLUDING MASTERBIRDER CLASSES. SEATTLE AUDUBON'S NATIONALLY-RENOWNED MASTERBIRDER PROGRAM HAS NOW PRODUCED 22 CLASSES OF GRADUATES. (CONTINUED ON SCH O)4. NATURE CAMP, A SUMMER EDUCATION EXPERIENCE IN TWO LOCATIONS FOR APPROXIMATELY 380 CHILDREN PER YEAR.5. FLEDGLINGS & FRIENDS, A PLAY-BASED BIRD AND NATURE EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR PRE-SCHOOL CHILDREN
CONSERVATION1. SEATTLE AUDUBON LEADS SEATTLE'S URBAN BIRD TREATY CITY GROUP, WHICH INCLUDES LOCAL NON-PROFIT AND CITY, STATE, AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PARTNERS. THE GROUP'S GOALS ARE TO ENHANCE HABITAT, REDUCE URBAN HAZARDS, AND ENGAGE OUR LOCAL COMMUNITIES IN BIRD CONSERVATION.2. SEATTLE AUDUBON SERVES ON SEATTLE'S URBAN FORESTRY COMMISSION, BRINGING BIRDS TO THE TABLE FOR KEY DECISION MAKING AROUND OUR URBAN FOREST. WE ADVOCATE FOR A STRONGER, SMARTER, AND SIMPLER TREE PROTECTION ORDINANCE, FUNDING FOR THE GREEN SEATTLE PARTNERSHIP, AND SCIENCE-BASED URBAN FORESTRY MANAGEMENT. 3. SEATTLE AUDUBON IS AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF THE MARBLED MURRELET COALITION. WE EDUCATE AND MOBILIZE OUR MEMBERSHIP (CONTINUED ON SCH O) TO PROTECT THE FEDERALLY-THREATENED MARBLED MURRELET. WE ALSO PARTICIPATE ON THE CAPITOL HILL ECODISTRICT, WHICH IS WORKING TO MAKE THE NEIGHBORHOOD A NATIONAL MODEL FOR ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY AND COMMUNITY HEALTH.4. SEATTLE AUDUBON ADVOCATES FOR POLICY AND ACTIONS THAT ARE GOOD FOR BIRDS AND PEOPLE, INCLUDING BIRD-SAFE BUILDING LEGISLATION, PROTECTING THE ARCTIC NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE FROM OIL AND GAS LEASING, SAFER OIL TRANSPORTATION IN PUGET SOUND, AND FULLY FUNDING WASHINGTON DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND WILDLIFE.5. SEATTLE AUDUBON'S CONSERVATION PROGRAM IS ACTIVE IN THE COMMUNITY. WE WORK WITH DOZENS OF PARTNERS TO ENGAGE MEMBERS AND NON-MEMBERS ALIKE ON CURRENT ISSUES IN BIRD CONSERVATION, INCLUDING HABITAT LOSS, INVASIVE SPECIES, URBAN HAZARDS, AND CLIMATE CHANGE.6. REGULAR EDUCATION AND COMMUNICATION WITH OUR MEMBERSHIP RELATIVE TO BIRD CONSERVATION ISSUES WITHIN SEATTLE AND AROUND THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST.
