Organizations Filed Purposes: With a network of over 178 Leaders empowered to share their stories of lived experience with mental health challenges, we are changing the way that people talk about mental health. Grounded in the evidence-based practice called the contact hypothesis, The Stability Network's approach is designed to reduce the stigma that prevents people living with mental health conditions from getting the treatment they need to live well. Our trained advocates share their stories in a way that inspires and encourages those experiencing mental health challenges, as well as their loved ones and employers.

The Stability Network inspires and encourages those experiencing mental health challenges to thrive.

Leader Support: In order to have its desired impact on communities around the globe, The Stability Network offers a robust system of support to its recruited Leaders. This support includes free access to our Advocacy Storytelling Training Program that is based on nationally recognized expertise. Leaders have the opportunity to participate in monthly webinars and workshops, as well as one on one coaching, all designed to equip the advocates to frame their mental health stories in a way that highlights the positive transformation and leaves those listening with an imprint of hope. The Stability Network also offers a variety of speaker training resources such as a Speaker's Manual and training exercises. In addition to its Advocacy Storytelling Training Program, The Stability Network offers a myriad of opportunities for Leaders to connect with each other to gain support and collaborate on joint mental health efforts. These opportunities include: access to an exclusive Stability Leaders-only website portal to connect with other Leaders, monthly network-wide calls spotlighting different topics in mental health, an annual network-wide conference, and local meetups led by volunteer Leaders in their respective regions (currently active in Seattle, Toronto, New York, and Houston). In 2019, The Stability Network supported 178 Leaders.

Media & Website: To reduce stigma and realize its vision of a world where all people with mental health conditions can thrive in supportive workplaces and communities, The Stability Network focuses its communications efforts on traditional and social media. With its message of hope, The Stability Network has garnered national and local press (TV, radio, and print), and has recognized a need for voices of lived experience to dispel negative stereotypes around mental health often portrayed in the media. In 2019, The Stability Network co-wrote a blog for the World Economic Forum and was featured in Kaiser Health News and the Seattle Times. The Stability Network focuses its social media efforts on Linkedin and Facebook. On both platforms, the organization shares inspiring stories of its Leaders as well as resources and events from partner organizations, recruits more potential Leaders, and leads individuals to its website to find further encouragement. In July 2019, The Stability Network rebuilt its website to better represent its mission. The website is designed to inspire and encourage those who visit it, through sharing insights and mental health journeys of Leaders. Since its website rebuild in July to the end of 2019, the website had 3,819 first time visitors. In addition, the website serves as a critical marketing vehicle for groups looking to secure speakers for mental health talks and for the media looking to engage with specific Leaders.

Public Speaking: The Stability Network, with the help of its partner, Living Proof Advocacy has designed the aforementioned Advocacy Storytelling Training Program in order to carry out its mission to inspire, encourage, and reduce stigma. Through this program, The Stability Network trains its volunteer advocates to be effective speakers and deploys them to share their lived experiences with mental health conditions in workplaces, community centers, and beyond. The aim of these talks is both to encourage those experiencing mental health challenges to seek the treatment and support they need to recover and live well, as well as to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. We hope that by opening up the conversation in workplaces, individuals feel more comfortable asking for the accommodations they need. Through inviting Stability Leaders to share their experiences, employers are given the opportunity to take on a complex topic and learn how to better support their employees living with mental health conditions. In 2019, The Stability Network reached over 950 individuals through its speaking engagements at venues including universities, residential treatment facilities, companies, churches, and others.
