Organizations Filed Purposes:
To work in creative ways to prevent homelessness and to provide housing for people in need.
University Congregational Housing Association (UCHA) provided housing for families in need through Sortun Court, a 16-unit apartment building and The Boathouse, a six-unit apartment building. UCHA owns, manages and maintains the affordable housing projects for families below 50% and 30% of median income as defined by HUD. UCHA also leases and manages a single-family house, which provided rental housing for homeless and/or low income persons.
UCHA provided support to other organizations working to provide housing for families in need and homelessness projects. In 2019, UCHA transfered properties - The McGrath House was gifted to Accelerator YMCA, our longtime youth services partner. They retain the McGrath House name and continue running it as a transitional residence for homeless 18 to 24-year-old youth. We gifted The Westwood House in West Seattle to Transitional Resources, our longtime mental health services partner to continue housing their formerly homeless clients.
