The Virginia Mason Health System the Health System is the parent and sole voting member of the Virginia Mason Medical Center the Medical Center, an integrated health care delivery system qualified under Section 501c3 of the Code. The purpose of the Health System is to advance and support the health care mission of the Medical Center. The Health System achieves this purpose through governance oversight and development support provided by its division the Virginia Mason Foundation. The Medical Center is a tertiary regional referral center which serves a patient community that includes Seattle and its surrounding suburbs, Western Washington and Alaska. The main campus located in Seattle includes a hospital, an outpatient clinic, and centers for excellence. The Medical Center also operates seven regional clinics, and Bailey-Boushay House, a 35-bed skilled nursing facility. In 2019, the Health System helped to support 12, 221 inpatient admissions, 24,985 emergency room visits and 976,974 out-patient visits to the Medical Center.

The Virginia Mason Health System the Health System is the parent and sole voting member of the Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason BRI, a scientific research institute qualified under Section 501c3 of the Code. The purpose of the Health System is to advance and support BRIs research mission. The Health System achieves this purpose through governance oversight and development support provided by its division the Virginia Mason Foundation. BRI is one of the few research institutes in the world dedicated to finding causes and cures to eliminate autoimmune diseases including Type I diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, scleroderma and many others. In 2019, BRI researchers generated 76 scientific publications and 85 clinicial research presentations. The Health System provided support to enable BRI to continue as an international leader in immune system and autoimmune disease research with a focus on translating laboratory discoveries to real-life applications.

The Virginia Mason Health System provides funds and in-kind services to community organizations which are consistent with the Health Systems charitable purposes. A list of community donations greater than 5,000 is included in Schedule I.
