Organizations Filed Purposes: Connect people through art, love and learning

In 2020, Wasat engaged more than 65,000 participants locally and globally through education, art and culture, and service activities. Wasat began the year with arts and culture events such as an Open Mic and Building community with Dr. Sherman Jackson, an African American thought leader on culture and community. At each of these events, we hosted 300 attendees, and engaged in 3600 total including live streaming and digital media. Through Pandemic, Wasat increased digital media presence and services to meet community needs. Free meal service: Wasat scaled the Neighborly Needs program to serve culturally competent iftar meals during the month of Ramadan to those who were facing food insecurity and then sustained this service through the rest of the year in South Seattle community centers. Neighborly Needs distributed over 6,000 free meals throughout the year. Community Wellness: Wasat started it's virtual community wellness program with four expert psychologist facilitators to guide the community in healing within the disciples of our traditions. Each check-in hosted about 40 community members. With an average of 120 participants per month and 1,000 throughout the year. Justice and Activism: Wasat also facilitated virtual events with focus on anti-racism and discussions on racial justice for Black Muslim Americans across the US following civic unrest. Wasat's digital media presence scaled globally from these critical events more than 20,000 engaged participants. Arts and Culture: Wasat hosted virtual arts and culture events throughout the year for expression, support, and healing to serve community needs. Wasat engaged in up to 5,000 participants from these events.
