Westside school presents a program where children experience the excitement of learning through academic achievement, creative expression, and cooperation with others. We believe that the cultivation of problem-solving, innovative analytical thinking and complex communication skills provides a strong foundation for lifelong success. We believe that children gain confidence through positive support and clear behavioral guidelines within a safe learning environment. We believe that students become caring members of a global community by treating each other honestly, with respect and generosity of spirit. Westside school offers an integrated program, utilizing thematic and project-based teaching. This approach provides opportunities for hands-on application of age-appropriate learned skills and is enhanced by field trips and a rich variety of in-class and school-wide presentations. Westside school provided education to 324 students, preschool through grade 8.
The Westside school extended day program provides a safe, fun environment for children. It provides opportunities to socialize, play games, do homework, and arts and crafts projects. Westside school also offers afterschool enrichment classes. These classes are held by quarter, and include classes such as chess, science, yoga, drama and more. Westside school also provides summer camp, which is a safe, fun environment for children during the summer vacation when the school is closed.
Westside school implements state and national grade level standards within each classroom. To effectively assist students' academic progress, the classroom teacher periodically assesses each child using a variety of formal and informal tools. Results of these assessments are shared with the parents. Parents have the right to engage a tutor of their choice, however Westside school has staff members who offer tutoring services through the school. If the parents choose the "in-house tutoring" the family is contacted by the school and the school pays the tutor for the service.
