HABITAT FOR HUMANITY-SPOKANE IS AN ECUMENICAL, NON-PROFIT CHRISTIAN MINISTRY DEDICATED TO BRINGING THE COMMUNITY TOGETHER TO BUILD DECENT, AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR ALL OF GOD'S PEOPLE IN NEED.

CONSTRUCTION, REPAIRS, AND/OR REHABILITATION OF HOUSES FOR LOW INCOME FAMILIES BY USING DONATED LABOR AND MATERIALS. HABITAT-SPOKANE BUILDS HOMES WITH FAMILIES IN NEED IN SPOKANE COUNTY. FAMILIES WORK BESIDE THE VOLUNTEERS TO HELP BUILD THEIR HOMES. EACH FAMILY MUST PUT IN 500 HOURS OF SWEAT-EQUITY WORK TO BUILD THEIR HOMES. FAMILIES WHO ARE SELECTED FOR OUR PROGRAM MUST MEET OUR REQUIREMENTS, AS FOLLOWS: 1) CURRENTLY LIVING IN INADEQUATE HOUSING, WHICH IS DESCRIBED AS UNSAFE, OVERCROWDED, SUBSIDIZED YET PAYING MORE THAN 30% OF THEIR INCOME FOR HOUSING. 2) EARNING BETWEEN 25%-80% OF THE AREA MEDIAN INCOME FOR SPOKANE COUNTY, MEET CREDITWORTHINESS REQUIREMENTS, AND SAVE $4,000 FOR CLOSING COSTS. 3) WILLING TO PARTNER WITH HABITAT-SPOKANE. TWO HOMES WERE COMPLETED AND SOLD DURING THE 2019 FISCAL YEAR.
THE HABITAT STORE --A RETAIL THRIFT STORE THAT SELLS DONATED FURNITURE, FIXTURES, HARDWAREAND A VARIETY OF BUILDING MATERIALS AT A DISCOUNTED PRICE TOTHE PUBLIC. THIS REDUCES WASTE IN THE COMMUNITY AND LOWERS THE AMOUNTOF DISCARDED BUILDING MATERIALS ENDING UP IN LANDFILLS. THE HABITATSTORE ALSO PROVIDES AN ADDITIONAL WAY FOR VOLUNTEERS TO SERVE THEIRCOMMUNITY. HABITAT FAMILIES ARE ABLE TO EARN SOME OF THEIR HOURS ATTHE STORE. THE NET PROCEEDS FROM THE HABITAT STORE ARE USED BY THEAFFILIATE TO BUILD HOMES FOR FAMILIES IN NEED.
