CONSERVATION OF CLEAN WATER, WILDLIFE HABITAT, FORESTS AND FARMS.

PROGRAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS 2019-2020OVER THE LAST 30 YEARS, INLAND NORTHWEST LAND CONSERVANCY HAS WORKED TO CONNECT PEOPLE TO NATURE BY CONSERVING LANDS AND WATERS ESSENTIAL LIFE IN THE INLAND NORTHWEST. INLC ENVISIONS A FUTURE OF INTERCONNECTED NATURAL HABITATS THROUGHOUT THE INLAND NORTHWEST, SUPPORTING THRIVING POPULATIONS OF NATIVE PLANTS AND WILDLIFE, ENJOYED AND RESPECTED BY THE PEOPLE WHO ALSO CALL THIS REGION HOME. THE CONSERVANCY HAS PROTECTED OVER 22,000 ACRES, INCLUDING 9,000 ACRES OF PARTNER PROJECTS, 365 ACRES OF PRESERVE LAND, 12,660 ACRES OF PRIVATE CONSERVATION EASEMENTS, AND 125 MILES OF PROTECTED WATERWAYS.DURING THE FISCAL YEAR, THE CONSERVANCY PURCHASED THE FINAL PIECES OF LAND THAT CONNECT PALISADES PARK AND RIVERSIDE STATE PARK, AN 11-MILE HABITAT AND RECREATION CORRIDOR THAT TRAVERSES SPOKANE'S WEST SIDE, MINUTES FROM DOWNTOWN. STAFF VISITED ALL 55 CONSERVATION EASEMENTS TO FULFILL ANNUAL MONITORING REQUIREMENTS. ROSE RICHARDSON, CONSERVATION AND STEWARDSHIP SPECIALIST, WAS HIRED IN OCTOBER, 2019 AND CAROL CORBIN, DIRECTOR OF PHILANTHROPY AND COMMUNICATION JOINED THE TEAM IN FEBRUARY, 2020.WHILE THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC INTERRUPTED MANY OF THE USUAL WAYS THE CONSERVANCY WOULD ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY WITH LOCAL LANDS AND WATERS, STAFF WORKED WITH 160 VOLUNTEERS AND VISITORS TO PRESERVE LANDS, FACILITATED 276 HOURS OF VOLUNTEER WORK, AND TRAINED 24 VOLUNTEER LAND STEWARDS TO CARE FOR AND MONITOR LANDS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC THROUGHOUT THE REGION. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONSERVANCY HOSTED SEVERAL VIRTUAL EVENTS DESIGNED TO ENGAGE EXISTING MEMBERS, EDUCATE THE COMMUNITY ABOUT LOCAL ECOLOGY AND CONSERVATION PROJECTS, AND CELEBRATE THE SUCCESSES OF THE YEAR. INLC MAINTAINED STAFFING LEVELS, DESPITE ECONOMIC UNCERTAINTY.WITH 450 ACTIVE DONORS AND VOLUNTEERS, THE CONSERVANCY SECURED NEW CONSERVATION EASEMENTS IN CRITICAL HABITAT AND WATERSHED AREAS, COLLABORATED WITH COMMUNITY AND AGENCY PARTNERS TO PROTECT NEW LANDS FOR PUBLIC ACCESS, AND SECURED CRITICAL LAND IN CONNECTING CORRIDORS THROUGHOUT THE INLAND NORTHWEST REGION. THE SUCCESS OF THIS FISCAL YEAR HAS BUILT A PLATFORM WITH WHICH THE CONSERVANCY CAN SCALE UP CONSERVATION EFFORTS, BATTLING THE EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE AND BUILDING HEALTHY, RESILIENT COMMUNITIES THROUGH KNOWLEDGE OF AND ENGAGEMENT WITH THE OUTDOORS.INLC IS SUPPORTED BY DONATIONS OF TIME AND MONEY FROM OVER 500 PEOPLE, BUSINESSES AND PRIVATE CORPORATIONS. K&L GATES PROVIDED $15,709 IN PRO BONO LEGAL SERVICES.
