Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE MISSION OF FAMILY PROMISE OF SPOKANE (FPS) IS TO EQUIP FAMILIES AND THE COMMUNITY TO END THE CYCLE OF HOMELESSNESS IN SPOKANE COUNTY, WASHINGTON. FPS ACCOMPLISHES ITS MISSION BY PREVENTING FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN FROM BECOMING HOMELESS, PROVIDING SHELTER FOR FAMILIES EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS, AND PREPARING FAMILIES FOR A STABLE LIFE AFTER HOMELESSNESS.
PROVIDE OVERNIGHT SHELTER, DAY CENTER, MEALS AND TRANSPORTATION TO HOMELESS FAMILIES IN THE SPOKANE AREA BY PARTNERING WITH AREA CHURCHES.
AS AN ESSENTIAL SERVICE, THE EMERGENCY FAMILY SHELTER (OPEN DOORS) SHELTERED 467 HOMELESS CHILDREN AND ADULTS THIS YEAR, WHILE ALSO RESPONDING QUICKLY TO THE COVID19 PANDEMIC. FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR GUESTS AND VOLUNTEERS AND TO ENSURE SERVICES WERE NOT INTERRUPTED BY THE PANDEMIC, FPS CONVERTED ITS ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES INTO A SECOND 24/7 SHELTER LOCATION TO HOUSE UP TO 15 PEOPLE (5 FAMILIES) INCLUDING INFANTS AND THOSE WITH COMPROMISED IMMUNE SYSTEMS. ALSO, FPS CREATED ITS OWN ISOLATION AND QUARANTINE FACILITIES IN THREE APARTMENTS, AN RV AND A CAMPING TRAILER. IN ADDITION TO THESE MEASURES, CLEANING AND SANITATION PROCEDURES WERE RAMPED UP ACROSS THE WHOLE ORGANIZATION. EVEN THROUGH THE PANDEMIC FPS MOVED 200 CHILDREN AND PARENTS FROM HOMELESS INTO PERMANENT HOUSING OF THEIR OWN.
THE ROTATIONAL SHELTER PROGRAM WHICH PARTNERS WITH 30 FAITH CONGREGATIONS IN SPOKANE COUNTY TO PROVIDE SHELTER, TRANSPORTATION, AND SERVICES TO HOMELESS FAMILIES WAS ON PACE TO HAVE ITS MOST SUCCESSFUL YEAR EVER, HOUSING 26 HOMELESS CHILDREN AND PARENTS BEFORE MARCH 13TH, 2020 (95% OF THE GUESTS IN THE PROGRAM) WHEN THE PROGRAM WAS BROUGHT TO A HALT BY THE COVID19 PANDEMIC AND SHUTDOWN. FPS PLANS ON REOPENING THE PROGRAM IN 2022.
THE PREVENTION PROGRAM PROVIDES RENTAL ASSISTANCE TO FAMILIES ABOUT TO EXPERIENCE EVICTION AND HOMELSSNESS. THIS PROGRAM HELPS PREVENT EVICTION FOR 30-40 FAMILIES PER YEAR.
