Organizations Filed Purposes:
HILLTOP ARTISTS IS A NON-PROFIT GLASS ARTS PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES CLASSES AND INDIVIDUALIZED INSTRUCTION FOR OVER 650 STUDENTS EACH YEAR. THROUGH THE PROGRAM, YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN THE ART OF GLASS BLOWING, MOSAICS, FUSED GLASS, AND BEADWORK. HILLTOP SERVES A DIVERSE GROUP OF YOUTH AND IS ESPECIALLY EFFECTIVE WITH YOUNG PEOPLE WHO ARE SEARCHING FOR WAYS TO CONNECT AND BELONG. HILLTOP ALSO DOES SPECIFIC OUTREACH IN COMMUNITIES THAT ARE DEALING WITH HIGH RISK FACTORS RELATED TO POVERTY, NEGLECT, HOMELESSNESS, SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND VIOLENCE.
PROVIDED SEQUENTIAL GLASS ARTS INSTRUCTION TO PIERCE COUNTY YOUTH, AGES 12-20, THROUGH IN-SCHOOL GLASS ART ELECTIVES, AFTER-SCHOOL, SUMMER, AND EVENING PROGRAMMING. WE OFFERED TEAM PRODUCTION FOR ADVANCED STUDENTS, AND ARTS CONNECT FOR COURT-INVOLVED YOUNG WOMEN. ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDED A WEEK LONG MOG RESIDENCY IN AUGUST 2019, OPEN STUDIOS, AND WEEKEND PUBLIC GLASS WORKSHOPS. FROM MID-MARCH 2020 ONWARDS GLASS ART PROGRAMMING ANDOUTREACH SUPPORT WAS PROVIDED VIRTUALLY DUE TO COVID-19.IN FEBRUARY, STAFF AND STUDENTS ATTENDED A CELEBRATION AT THE GOVERNOR'S MANSION HONORING HILLTOP ARTISTS AS 2020 "WASHINGTON ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR." THE AWARD WAS PRESENTED BY LT. GOVERNOR CYRUS HABIB AND SPEAKERLAURIE JINKINS AND CELEBRATED OUR 26 YEARS CONNECTING YOUTH TO BETTER FUTURES.WE RESPONDED QUICKLY TO THE COVID-19 HEALTH CRISIS STARTING IN MARCH 2020. WE CREATED AN ONLINE CURRICULUM AVAILABLE ON OUR WEBSITE, PROVIDED WEEKLY VIRTUAL ARTS INSTRUCTION, AND DELIVERED AT-HOME ART KITS TO KEEP OUR YOUTH ENGAGED. WE PROVIDED GROCERY CARDS, HYGIENE ITEMS, TRANSPORTATION CARDS AND OTHER SUPPORT TO YOUTH IN NEED.WE SENT TWO STUDENTS TO BIOT, FRANCE FOR OUR INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE, YOUTH GAINED EXPERIENCE BLOWING GLASS AT THE MUSEUM OF GLASS, AND WE PARTNERED WITH ITALIAN GLASS STUDIO LAGUNA B ON A SUMMER DESIGN PROJECT. OUR STUDENTS' TABLEWARE DESIGNS WILL BE CREATED BY ITALIAN MAESTROS AND SHOWCASED AT VENICE GLASS WEEK 2021.OUR ADVANCED STUDENTS HOSTED A 5-DAY SUMMER GLASS BLOWING RESIDENCY IN AUGUST 2019, MONTHLY GLASS BLOWING DEMONSTRATIONS, PLUS 9 DAYS OFFERING ORNAMENT WORKSHOPS FOR THE PUBLIC AT THE MUSEUM OF GLASS IN THE FALL OF 2019. STUDENTS ATTENDED 3 DAYS/NIGHTS LEARNING NEW GLASS ART SKILLS AT PILCHUCK GLASS SCHOOL IN SEPTEMBER 2019.
