TRAUMA TRUST'S MISSION IS TO PROVIDE EXPERT COMPREHENSIVE CARE IN TRAUMA, EMERGENCY GENERAL SURGERY AND SURGICAL CRITICAL CARE IN THE SOUTH PUGET SOUND AND THE WEST REGION.
TO PROVIDE EXPERT CARE IN TRAUMA, EMERGENCY GENERAL SURGERY AND SURGICAL CRITICAL CARE.
TRAUMA TRUST CONTINUES TO PROVIDE ADULT TRAUMA CARE TO THE TACOMA/SOUTH SOUND AREA WHICH SERVES AS A VALUABLE RESOURCE FOR THE WEST REGIONS AND OTHER SURROUNDING TRAUMA CENTERS CARING FOR PATIENTS WITH COMPLEX ORTHOPEDIC, CHEST, ABDOMINAL, FACIAL, HEAD AND SPINE INJURIES. TRAUMA TRUST HAS SERVED 34,759 TRAUMA PATIENTS SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 2000 WHICH INCLUDES 1,638 TRAUMA PATIENTS BEING SEEN IN 2019. IN 2018, THERE WERE 1,498 PATIENTS SEEN.THE TRAUMA TRUST IS COMPRISED OF TRAUMA SURGEONS THAT ARE SUPPORTED BY PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS AND NURSE PRACTITIONERS. DUE TO A NECESSITY FOR 24/7 COVERAGE FOR EMERGENCY SURGERY IN 2009 THE GROUP EXPANDED ITS SERVICE TO INCLUDE ACUTE CARE SURGICAL SERVICES (ACSS). THIS EXPANSION HAS IMPROVED THROUGHPUT, STANDARDIZED CARE AND ALLOWS FOR A TEAM APPROACH. THE ACSS HAS SEEN A RAPID INCREASE IN PATIENT VOLUME WHICH HAS DOUBLED THE NUMBER OF PATIENTS SEEN BY TRAUMA TRUST PROVIDERS.TRAUMA TRUST PROVIDES EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR RESIDENT AND PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT STUDENTS INCLUDING MADIGAN ARMY MEDICAL CENTER (MAMC) AND NAVY PERSONNEL. WE HAVE APPROXIMATELY 15-20 ROTATIONS PER YEAR THROUGH OUR SERVICE THAT ALLOWS FOR MONITORED HANDS-ON CARE OF TRAUMA AND SURGICAL PATIENTS.TRAUMA TRUST SUPPORTS WESTERN WASHINGTON TRAUMA COMMUNITY BY SERVING AS A RESOURCE AND PROVIDING EDUCATION TO SURROUNDING TRAUMA CENTERS AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES (EMS). TRAUMA TRUST ATTENDS AND HOSTS EVENTS AND PROVIDES EDUCATION AND FEEDBACK ON THE STANDARDS OF THE CRITICALLY INJURED PATIENT. TRAUMA TRUST ALSO HAS REPRESENTATION ON THE WASHINGTON STATE TRAUMA AND EMERGENCY SERVICES COMMITTEE, THE PIERCE COUNTY FALLS COALITION, AND THE NORTHWEST HEALTHCARE RESPONSE NETWORK.EDUCATIONONE OF OUR LARGER EDUCATION PROJECTS IS IN NOVEMBER EACH YEAR. TRAUMA TRUST HOSTS THE TACOMA TRAUMA CONFERENCE AT THE GREATER TACOMA CONVENTION & TRADE CENTER. EACH YEAR WE PARTNER WITH DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONS TO ENRICH OUR CONFERENCE OFFERINGS. IN 2019 WE PARTNERED WITH MAMC'S ANDERSON SIMULATION CENTER WHO UTILIZED BOTH MILITARY AND CIVILIAN PERSONNEL TO PUT ON A MASS CAUSALITY TRIAGE SCENARIO THAT CONFERENCE PARTICIPANTS TOOK AN ACTIVE PART. THE CONFERENCE COVERS TOPICS IN BOTH ADULT AND PEDIATRIC TRAUMA. THE CONFERENCE IS TAILORED TO NURSES AND PARAMEDICS AS WELL AS MID-LEVEL PROVIDERS AND PHYSICIANS. IN 2019 TRAUMA TRUST PROVIDED 10 SCHOLARSHIPS TO NURSING AND MED STUDENTS WISHING TO ATTEND THE CONFERENCE. THE CONFERENCE WAS ATTENDED BY 570 PAID PARTICIPANTS. THE STRENGTH OF THE TRAUMA TEAM COULD NOT BE POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE EXCELLENT CARE PROVIDED BY THE PREHOSPITAL (EMS) PROVIDERS AND NURSES. TRAUMA TRUST PROVIDES EDUCATION TO EMS, ED, AND ICU TO IMPROVE THE CARE PROVIDED. IN 2019 WE TRAINED MULTIPLE EMS PROVIDERS ON BLEEDING CONTROL AND FALL PREVENTION. OUR PHYSICIANS SPOKE TO THE TACOMA GENERAL HOSPITAL AND ST. JOSEPHS EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT AND ICU STAFF ON; RESUSCITATIVE THORACOTOMY, GERIATRIC TRAUMA, AND BRAIN DEATH, HANGING, AND ASPHYXIA TO INCLUDE SPECIFIC CASE REVIEWS. IN 2019 GRAND ROUNDS WERE PRESENTED ON THE TOPIC OF IMPACT OF TRAUMA SYSTEMS ON PATIENT SURVIVAL. FOR EDUCATION TO OUR EMS AND HOSPITAL STAFF AT NO COST.IN 2019, TRAUMA TRUST PROVIDED RURAL TRAUMA TEAM DEVELOPMENT COURSES FOR SUMMIT PACIFIC MEDICAL CENTER AND PROVIDENCE CENTRALIA HOSPITAL. THE COURSES WERE PROVIDED FOR PREHOSPITAL AND HOSPITAL EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT AND ICU STAFF. MULTIPLE RURAL HOSPITALS FROM WESTERN WASHINGTON COMMUNITIES TRAUMA TRUST SERVES ALSO ATTENDED THE COURSES.TRAUMA TRUST HAS UPDATED OUR WEBSITE WHICH IS AVAILABLE TO THE COMMUNITY. WE PROVIDE CURRENT OUTREACH PROGRAMS TO INCLUDE FALL PREVENTION, DISTRACTED DRIVING, AND BLEEDING CONTROL. WE OFFER FREE TRAUMA EDUCATION IN THE FORM OF TRAUMA LEARNING MODULES FOR NURSING STAFF. WE PROVIDE LINKS TO OTHER FREE EDUCATIONAL TRAINING TO PROVIDE QUALITY EVIDENCED-BASED TRAUMA EDUCATION.INJURY PREVENTIONINJURY PREVENTION IS A CORE COMPONENT OF EVERY TRAUMA PROGRAM. TRUST ALSO FOCUSED ON NO COST COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND EDUCATION IN 2019. WE TAUGHT THE STOP THE BLEED COURSES TO ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND TEACHERS, COMMUNITY GROUPS, SENIOR COMMUNITY GROUPS, AND RURAL HOSPITALS AND EMS AGENCIES. IN 2019 WE PARTNERED WITH MULTIPLE COMMUNITY AGENCIES TO PROVIDE IMPACT TEEN DRIVERS TRAINING TO MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN WESTERN WASHINGTON. WE PROVIDED FALL PREVENTION TRAINING WITH OUR ALLIANCE WITH PIERCE COUNTY FALL PREVENTION TO SENIOR AGENCIES AND HEALTH FAIRS. TRAUMA TRUST ALSO WAS ACTIVE WITH THE NORTHWEST HEALTHCARE RESPONSE NETWORK IN 2019 TO PROVIDE DISASTER PREPAREDNESS TRAINING. TRAUMA TRUST IS CONTINUING THEIR INVOLVEMENT WITH THE WA FIREARM TRAGEDY PREVENTION NETWORK TO WORK TOGETHER TO PREVENT FIREARM TRAGEDIES. TRAUMA TRUST HAS INSTRUCTORS FOR IN THEIR SHOES: TEENS AND DATING VIOLENCE, WITH THE WASHINGTON STATE COALITION AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. THIS TRAINING INCREASES AWARENESS OF TEEN DATING VIOLENCE THROUGHOUT WASHINGTON. TRAUMA TRUST CONTINUED TO PUBLISH IN 2019 A QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER, THE RAVEN, WHICH IS SHARED WITH OUR MEDICAL COMMUNITY.
