Organizations Filed Purposes:
Yakima Music en Acción (YAMA) grows confident leaders throughout neighborhoods it serves by widening access to professional-level music learning, igniting collective pride, and empowering and unifying students and families.
YAMA utilizes a rigorous daily model of ensemble-based music education, with a dual emphasis on musical literacy and active community-building, in neighborhoods with greatest barriers to accessing high-quality after-school opportunities. With 130 participating students in 2019, ages 8 to 17, learning daily at two sites, YAMA develops skills to facilitate the academic and social successes of at-promise youth, particularly by developing student leadership skills, providing pathways to college, and engaging families in the process. YAMA is run in active partnership with the Yakima Symphony Orchestra and the Yakima School District. Programming takes place daily on school premises.
