CARIDAD CENTER'S MISSION IS TO UPGRADE THE HEALTH, EDUCATION, AND LIVING STANDARDS OF UNDERSERVED CHILDREN AND FAMILIES RESIDING IN PALM BEACH COUNTY. OVER 700 VOLUNTEER DOCTORS, DENTISTS, AND OTHER PROFESSIONALS SERVED THE UNINSURED AND UNDERINSURED WORKING POOR OF PALM BEACH COUNTY.
TO UPGRADE THE HEALTH, EDUCATION AND LIVING STANDARDS OF UNDERSERVED CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN PBC.
OVER 32,000 MEDICAL AND DENTAL VISITS WERE PROVIDED TO UNINSURED AND UNDERINSURED INDIVIDUALS RESIDING IN PALM BEACH COUNTY. MEDICAL SERVICES INCLUDE PRIMARY MEDICINE AND THE FOLLOWING SPECIALTY CARE SERVICES: INTERNAL MEDICINE, PEDIATRICS, UROLOGY, CARDIOLOGY, GASTROENTEROLOGY, EAR, NOSE & THROAT, MINOR SURGERY, DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, MENTAL & BEHAVIORAL HEALTH, WOMEN'S HEALTH, AND AN ENHANCED OPTHALMOLOGY PROGRAM. OUR CHRONIC DISEASE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM COORDINATES PREVENTION, EDUCATION, AND TREATMENT (P.E.T.) SERVICES FOR PATIENTS AT RISK FOR CONDITIONS SUCH AS CARDIO-VASCULAR DISEASE, DIABETES, AND CHILDHOOD OBESITY. THE DENTAL PROGRAM PROVIDES BASIC SERVICES AND SPECIALTY CARE SERVICES, INCLUDING ENDODONTICS AND PERIODONTICS. IN FY 2018/19, VOLUNTEER DOCTORS, DENTISTS, AND OTHER ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONALS PROVIDED OVER $8 MILLION IN FREE SERVICES AND POTENTIALLY SAVED PALM BEACH COUNTY TAXPAYERS OVER $25 MILLION BY ELIMINATING UNCOMPENSATED ER CARE.
THE SOCIAL SERVICES PROGRAM HELPS TO PREVENT HOMELESSNESS AND HUNGER WITHIN PALM BEACH COUNTY THROUGH THE PROVISION OF EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE SERVICES, INCLUDING SUBSIDIES FOR RENT AND UTILITIES, AND FOOD VOUCHERS. IN FY 2018/19, BACKPACKS FILLED WITH GRADE-APPROPRIATE SCHOOL SUPPLIES WERE DISTRIBUTED TO 1,000 STUDENTS, AND 120 CHILDREN RECEIVED SCHOOL UNIFORMS AND SHOES. IN ADDITION, 1,357 CHILDREN AND THEIR PARENTS RECEIVED HOLIDAY GIFTS, 28 LOW INCOME STUDENTS RECEIVED COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS, AND 103 UNDERPRIVILEGED CHILDREN WERE ABLE TO ATTEND SUMMER CAMPS & RECREATIONAL CLASSES AT NO COST TO THEIR FAMILIES.
47 AT RISK CHILDREN, GRADES 1-3, PARTICIPATED IN OUR AFTER-SCHOOL HOMEWORK ENRICHMENT PROGRAM; 64 VOLUNTEERS SERVED AS TUTORS AND MENTORS, WORKING UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF CERTIFIED TEACHERS. THEY ASSISTED THE CHILDREN WITH HOMEWORK, READING, MATH, COMPUTER SKILLS, AND SOCIALIZATION. THIS PROGRAM'S GOAL IS TO UTILIZE EDUCATION TO IMPROVE ACADEMIC SKILLS IN ORDER TO BREAK THE CYCLE OF POVERTY. STUDENTS IN THIS PROGRAM HAVE DEMONSTRATED CONSISTENTLY IMPROVED ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE, HIGHER CLASS PARTICIPATION, AND INCREASED SELF CONFIDENCE.
