Organizations Filed Purposes: The Organization's mission is to improve the quality of life in our community by promoting and achieving literacy.

Literacy Coalition provides services to 29,000 local adults & children each year.Significant information:On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization characterized Coronavirus (COVID-19) as a pandemic, and on March 13, 2020, the President of the United States declared a national emergency relating to the disease. This unprecedented situation has resulted in the temporary contraction of activities and operating hours for many individuals and organizations, including those that interact with and support the Literacy Coalition. As a result, the Coalition's 2020-21 operations and financial results may be adversely affected by governmental restrictions, additional cleaning and compliance costs, decline investment performance, and the potential loss or reduction of certain revenue streams. Management believes the Coalition is taking appropriate actions to mitigate these negative effects; however, the full impact of COVID-19 remains unknown.

The ParentChild+ Program: An intensive home visiting program sub-contracted with three agencies that provides weekly home visits for parents and children in need of emerging literacy skills over a period of 43 or more weeks. Books and educational toys are given to the families along with instruction on how to use these items to increase verbal interaction between parent and child. - 23,105 home visits were conducted with 647 families. - 5,572 books and 5,133 educational toys were distributed. - 100% of families increased positive verbal interactions. - 100% of children increased positive behaviors.

The Literacy Americorps: Recruits, trains and supervises recent college graduates from across the United States to spend a year tutoring, mentoring, and teaching in Palm Beach County.- 420 adult learners were assisted with reading, English and employability skills. - 1497 at-risk youth were coached, tutored and mentored for academic success.- 126 children received tutoring and literacy enrichment to improve reading skills.- 188 children and youth were provided with homework help.

The Glades Family Education Program: Provides comprehensive literacy training for adults and their preschool children in the rural western communities of Palm Beach County.The program served a total of 89 adults and 22 children.- 87% of adult students who were pre and post tested, made significant gains in one or more tested skills (reading, listening and speaking).- 100% of the preschool aged children from the program demonstrated improvement in their language, cognitive and early reading skills.
