Peanuts are the largest commodity grown in Levy County. We showcased this commodity by participating in the 'Spread the Love' peanut butter food drive. These type of events helps agriculture by highlighting peanuts, one of our major commodities, and improving community relations.
We participated in Ag Literacy Day. This year's the program focused around forestry. A feller buncher was brought to the schools to demonstrate how timber is harvested. Students learned about the various uses of timber and volunteers read this year's featured book 'Forever There's a Forest! Each year a different sector of agriculture or commodity is highlighted. Programs like these enable students to gain an appreciation for agriculture and its impact in our daily lives.
