Organizations Filed Purposes: Research, education and conservation work to improve the health & productivity of coastal environments for endangered species & human livelihoods that depend on them.

Manatee Rescue and Rehabilitation Partnership (MRP) - Each year many manatees are injured or become sick and must be rescued and treated at critical care facilities such as Seaworld of Florida, Jacksonville Zoo and Miami Seaquarium. Exposure to red tide, cold temperatures and disease are all natural problems that can affect manatees. Man-made threats include boat collisions, crushing by floodgates or locks and entanglement in or ingestion of fishing gear. Sea to Shore Alliance is responsible for satellite tracking and monitoring rescued, rehabilitated and released manatees into the wild. By doing so, we help to ensure their well-being and the information we collect is used to improve protocols and pre-release training of manatees to improve their chances of survival in the wild.

Northern Right Whale - The northern right whale is one of the most endangered whales on the planet, with less than 500 remaining and with declining numbers they are on the verge of extinction. The right whale conservation program through education, public engagement, monitoring reproduction and population numbers, aims to reduce risks and understand the factors contributing to the species decline. Our projects include extensive aerial surveys over the only known calving area in the Atlantic Ocean, producing and disseminating educational materials, scientific input and sponsoring an annual Right Whale Festival that attracts the public to learn about the plight of these whales while having an enjoyable family experience.

Manatee Research and Conservation - Manatees, a federally listed threatened species, have seen their numbers slowly rise as a result of federal and state protection measures. Sea to Shore Alliance, through our research activities on manatees, provide scientific data for decision-making such as understanding their dependence on warm water sanctuaries, changes in distribution and movements as climate changes and impact on manatees for modification of coastal power plants which discharge warm water. Each year S2S, as a member of the Manatee Rescue and Rehabilitation Partnership satellite tracks and monitors released, rehabilitated manatees to help ensure they adapt to the wild. Additionally, we satellite tag and monitor manatees movements and use of important habitat in and outside of Florida including Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. S2S staff attend educational events, festivals and give talks to stakeholders, the public and students on the results of our work, the status of manatees and threats to their survival. S2S provides data and scientific input to governmental agencies and corporations in order to reduce threats to manatees and alert for the need for manatee rescues.
