Organizations Filed Purposes:
The Coconut Grove Sailing Foundation was formed to promote training in the areas of sailing, water sports, oceanography, navagation, sail boat racing, cruising, and environmental aspects of the ocean and waterfront.
To encourage and support the amateur sport of sailing, and the craft of seamanship, oceanography, navigation, amateur sail boat racing, cruising, and environmental aspects of the ocean.
Most of the efforts have been concentrated on young people, including programs for those not fortunate enough to own a sailboat or have easy access to the water. Money raised by the Foundation has been used to set up sailing teams at the University of Miami and local high schools. Lasers are furnished for the use by kids of junior high and high school age. We have raised funds for Sunfish and keel boats for adult sailing classes. Optimist Dinghies and Prams are made available for younger children, ages 8-13. The Foundation has also sponsored safety training seminars for all sailing organizations on Biscayne Bay, and funded a program to teach kids to sail who otherwise could not afford it.All the Foundation's efforts are conducted solely by volunteers. No one is paid any salary so all funds raised go support our activities.
