Organizations Filed Purposes:
Assist veterans, veterans families and the community.
Promote and provide social and recreational activities for veterans.
We support our Florida veterans home located at Ft. McCoy, FL, each year. We buy flags for Memorial Day and place those on veterans graves at local cemeteries. We also have a relief fund which is used to assist destitute veterans and their families in time of need throughout the year. We also assist veterans with wheelchairs, walkers, and ramps when needed at their residence.
VFW Post 5450 supports active duty units as an ongoing program. This year under the VFW Adopt-a-unit program, we held a food/camaraderie event for the entire 96th Medical Group at Eglin Air Force Base, in Fort Walton Beach, FL. This event was attended by more than 600 active duty personnel during duty hours and is completely sponsored by VFW funds. These types of events go a long way toward getting active duty and retired personnel together in a communal environment.
