THE DAVID POSNACK JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER ENRICHES LIVES BY CONNECTING PEOPLE THROUGH CULTURAL, EDUCATIONAL, SOCIAL, RECREATIONAL AND WELLNESS PROGRAMS IN AN ENVIRONMENT OF FUN, FRIENDSHIP AND UNITY. THE J IS OPEN TO ALL AND PROUDLY GUIDED BY JEWISH VALUES
THE JCC PROVIDES THE CHILDREN OF THE SOUTH BROWARD COMMUNITY WITH A UNIQUE JEWISH SUMMER CAMP EXPERIENCE. LOCATED ON THE JCC'S 40-ACRE CAMPUS, SEVEN SEPARATE CAMP PROGRAMS COMBINE TO CREATE THE CAMP KADIMA PROGRAM. CAMP KADIMA ENABLES CHILDREN AGES 2-14 TO BUILD SELF-CONFIDENCE AND SOCIALIZATION SKILLS WITHIN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT. 1,014 BOYS AND GIRLS WERE SERVED FOR 39 DAYS. THESE CAMPS, WITH THEIR INDIVIDUALIZED MISSION STATEMENTS, ARE AS FOLLOWS:1. CAMP K'TON TON - FOR BOYS AND GIRLS OF AGES 2-4: CHILDREN WILL EXPERIENCE A SUMMER FILLED WITH FUN, FRIENDSHIP AND JEWISH TRADITION IN A SAFE AND NURTURING ENVIRONMENT. BY PARTICIPATING IN DEVELOPMENTALLY, AGE-APPROPRIATE ACTIVITIES, THE CHILD WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPLORE AND INTERACT WHILE BUILDING A SENSE OF CONFIDENCE, COMPETENCE AND SELF-ESTEEM. ALL ACTIVITIES FOR THIS AGE GROUP ARE HELD ON-SITE ON THE JCC CAMPUS. CAMP K'TON TON OFFERS AN EIGHT-WEEK, HALF DAY OPTION FOR AGES 2, 3, AND 4. THE JCC'S DYNAMIC, STANDARDIZED SWIM PROGRAM, CREATED FOR THE PRESCHOOLER, PROMOTES WATER SAFETY AND SWIMMING READINESS SKILLS, AS WELL AS FUN AND ENJOYMENT IN THE WATER. THE SWIMMING PROGRAM IS CONDUCTED ON THE JCC'S ON-SITE POOLS.2. CAMP OLIM - FOR BOYS AND GIRLS ENTERING KINDERGARTEN: CHILDREN IN CAMP OLIM WILL ENJOY A SUMMER FILLED WITH ACTIVITIES, KEEPING THESE YOUNG CAMPERS ENTERTAINED, ENTHUSIASTIC, CREATIVE AND ENERGIZED ALL SUMMER LONG. THIS PROGRAM IS AN EXCITING TRANSITION THAT KEEPS THE WARMTH AND SECURITY OF THE PRESCHOOL EXPERIENCE, WHILE PROVIDING NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE EXPANDING ABILITIES OF THE 5 YEAR OLD CHILD. MOST ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING SWIMMING IN OUR ON-SITE POOLS, ARE HELD ON THE JCC CAMPUS. CHILDREN ALSO ENJOY FIELD TRIPS ON AIR-CONDITIONED BUSES TO LOCAL ATTRACTIONS. 3. CAMP BONIM & PREMIER CAMPS - FOR BOYS AND GIRLS IN GRADES 1-5: CAMP BONIM COMBINES FRIENDSHIP, CHARACTER BUILDING, FUN AND JEWISH TRADITION. CHILDREN WILL JOIN IN THE CAMP SPIRIT AND GAIN A SENSE OF BELONGING WHILE DEVELOPING NEW SKILLS IN A MYRIAD OF ACTIVITIES. CHILDREN SWIM ON-SITE, LEARNING SWIMMING SKILLS AND WATER SAFETY, WHILE ENJOYING THE WATER. ALL CAMPERS ENJOY FIELD TRIPS, MACCABIAH GAMES, ZIMRIAH (SONGFEST), AND SPECIAL EVENTS INCLUDING A CARNIVAL AND A CAMP-WIDE MITZVAH PROJECT.4. CAMP EXTREME ADVENTURE - FOR BOYS AND GIRLS IN GRADES 6-8: EXTREME OFFERS TEENS WITH SPECIAL FIELD TRIPS, TEAM BUILDING OPPORTUNITIES, DRAMA, MUSIC, ART AND SPORTS GALORE. 5. LEADERS IN TRAINING (LIT) PROGRAM - FOR BOYS AND GIRLS IN GRADE 9: THIS PROGRAM IS THE FIRST LEVEL IN THE TRANSITION FROM CAMPER TO COUNSELOR. DURING PART OF EACH, THE YOUNG TEENS WORK SIDE-BY-SIDE WITH EXPERIENCED COUNSELORS AND SPECIALISTS, TRAINING TO BE FUTURE CAMP KADIMA STAFF MEMBERS. ACTIVITIES INCLUDE PLANNING A CAMP-WIDE MITZVAH PROJECT AND WEEKLY SHABBAT PROJECTS. TRAINING INCLUDES A MANDATORY TRAINING SESSION AND CONTINUES WITH WEEKLY SESSIONS FACILITATED BY A PROFESSIONAL STAFF MEMBER. 6. COUNSELORS IN TRAINING (CIT) PROGRAM - FOR BOYS AND GIRLS IN GRADE 10: THIS COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING PROGRAM IS A STEPPING-STONE THAT LEADS TO THE NEXT LEVEL, THE POSITION OF JUNIOR CAMP KADIMA STAFF MEMBER. CITS PARTICIPATE IN ALL CAMP ACTIVITIES, WORKING SIDE-BY-SIDE WITH A JUNIOR AND SENIOR COUNSELOR, LEARING TO BE PART OF A TEAM. 7. CAMP GIBORIM - FOR BOYS AND GIRLS OF AGES 3-21: CAMP GIBORIM IS A SPECIAL NEEDS CAMP THAT SERVES CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS WHO HAVE AUTISM, LEARNING DISABILITIES, DEVELOPMENTAL DELAYS, EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL HANDICAPS IN A NURTURING ENVIRONMENT FILLED WITH INNOVATIVE ACTIVITIES.
THE JCC'S EARLY CHILDHOOD LEARNING CENTER IS DESIGNED TO MEET THE DEVELOPMENTAL NEEDS OF PARTICIPATING CHILDREN. CHILDREN WILL EXPERIENCE ART, COOKING, DRAMATIC PLAY, SCIENCE, PLAYBALL GYM, KARATE, SPANISH, LIBRARY AND COMPUTERS. THE EARLY CHILDHOOD LEARING PROGRAM INTEGRATES JEWISH EXPERIENCES INTO THE CHILD'S LIFE. A PRESCHOOL EXPERIENCE SHOULD BE A SPECIAL TIME IN THE CHILD'S LIFE.
THE JCC'S SPORTS AND WELLNESS PROGRAMS PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS OF ALL AGES TO PARTICIPATE IN ACTIVITIES THAT PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES TO CREATE A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE THROUGH EXERCISE, RECREATION, TEAMWORK, SPORTSMANSHIP AND SOCIALIZATION. APPROXIMATELY 7,500 INDIVIDUALS PARTICIPATED IN ACTIVITIES FOR 7 DAYS PER WEEK.
