Organizations Filed Purposes:
My Angel With Paws is a volunteer based organization committed to expanding public understanding and knowledge of the needs of individuals with disabilities through the rescuing, breeding, training, placement and continuing education of service dogs and facility dogs in Florida.
Rescuing, breeding, raising and training service dog prospects from birth to placement with a disabled individual. This includes vet care (vaccines, spay/neuter, emergencies etc.), dog food, treats, toys and training equipment. Also included are health screenings and temperment testing. It takes approximately 2 years and $30,000 to train one service dog.
Placing Service Dogs with a disabled individual. This is the accumulation of 2 years of training. A newly paired team must go through a 2 week intensive training program and pass a public access test at the end. There are follow up visits after placement and each team is required to pass a public access test annually. This also includes a graduation where the ceremonial passing of the leash from trainer to client occurs.
Continuing education of the public about service dogs, disabled individuals and My Angel With Paws is an on going program within our community. Volunteers give demonstrations about service dogs, walk in parades, and have booths at events.
