To ensure the long term viability of agriculture through educating the public and improving the lives of those in our community.
Palm Beach County is the largest agricutural county in the state of Florida. However, it is highly urbanized therefore during South Florida Fair we take the opportunity to educate the general public on the importance of agriculture and its impact on our county. The fair attracts over half a million people each year during it's 17 day run. We promote our local agriculture by displaying what commodities are grown in our area as well as where they are grown.
Over 400 students participated in the 'Ambassador of the Wetlands' program designed for H.S. students. This hands on program explains the importance of wetlands, ecological functions, human changes to the natural system, and about the Everglades restoration project. It is important to continue to educate students on being good stewards of the environment and how farmers and ranchers implement best management practices to maintain our ecosystem.
Palm Beach County Farm Bureau supports youth involved in 4-H and FFA activities throughout the year. We have assisted students with irrigation systems at theri FFA tree farms, provided scholarships, and supported their activities at the fair. It is important to mentor and educate students on the importance of agriculture and continue to encourage them to stay active in their agricultural communities.
