Organizations Filed Purposes: Non-Profit Community Theatre in Lake County, Florida

In September of 2019, Bay Street Players, Inc. (BSP) entered its 45th Main Stage and 43th Young People's Theatre seasons with enthusiasm and optimism for another successful season of quality productions. Little did we know what was ahead, the sacrifices we would have to make, or the strength that lay within our State Theatre family. The season started well with Breaking Legs, followed by A Christmas Carol: A Musical, and The Fantasticks. The first annual Play Your Part fundraiser was a triumph, and the sole performance of Lady Day was amazing. By April 1st, we went dark as a result of the statewide Corona-virus Stay at Home order. Moonlight and Magnolias was moved to the next season and The Robber Bridegroom had to be canceled. PPP and EDIL funding allowed us to keep our staff remotely for a period, but it wouldn't last. The income had stopped, but our theatre family hadn't.While the arrival of the Covid epidemic definitely affected our season, the BSP team didn't give up. We continued to be a teaching theatre on both our Main Stage and Young People's Theatre levels through Zoom and small live productions under strict Covid guidelines. In spite of the epidemic, BSP succeeded in keeping the doors open, staff employed remotely and community entertainment alive through the concentrated efforts of a dedicated team and amazing supporters. We are proud to be able to maintain our history within Lake County and the Eustis community through participation in active events such as Eustis 1st Fridays (virtual and live), Eustis Light Up, Light Up Sorrento and more. BSP has continued to support the city, area clubs, schools and organizations through ticket donations and volunteer services. Our YPT program keeps productions alive and available through Zoom classes and special performances at the theatre. BSP believes the show will go on. As Covid makes its exit, more opportunities enter. We look forward to expanding every level of the State Theatre of Eustis through our BSP and YPT programs as we enter our next season. We are proud to have launched one of our own into his own theatre company. The Second Stage series was replaced by the Avant-Garde and Legends series in 2019. This run will include special events featuring Phantasmagoria, Sir Paul McCartney and Buddy Holly Impersonators, Jukebox Memories, and Tim Kelly, just to name a few.BSP is proud to have established itself within the community by our participation in TedX, Georgefest, the Amazing Race, the African American Heritage Celebration, the Gospel Festival, First Friday, and more, within the past year. We look forward to expanding our support as time allows.
