SOFIA improves economic and social insights and services to empower people as they age.
Foster Grandparent Program: Older adults 55 years of age and better provide one on one tutoring and mentoring to youth from infancy to 21 years if age with exceptional or special needs to help increase their literacy, social and emotional development and overall academic engagement. Over 660 students were served by 160 Foster Grandparents in 58 schools and 11 childcare centers.
Senior Companion Program: Provides supportive person-to-person services to assist frail, elderly and disabled adults in order for them to maintain independence.Over 108 volunteers provided companionship , indepedent living and respite services to 289 clients and caregivers in 2019-2020. 90% of caregivers reported having increased social support and 97% of clients reported to have improved independence.
Tech services program: The Tech Services program is an award winning technology curriculum specifically designed for older adults to strengthen their social and economic well-being. Through parterships with Older Adults Technology Service (OATS) and Cyber Seniors, beginners learn skills in email and online safety, navigating maps,navigating websites, on-line portals and doing health research.Intermediate students learn skills in health management, online banking,online shopping, online resources,social media, managing money,reducing spending and identifying income opportunities. Over 500 older adults have received technology trainging since the inception of the program in 2018.
