TO EMPOWER PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES TO ATTAIN AN IMPROVED QUALITY OF LIFE IN THE COMMUNITY THROUGH ONGOING ADVOCACY AND THE PROVISION OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY SERVICES AND SUPPORT. THE ARC OF ST. LUCIE COUNTY IS DEDICATED TO ENABLING THE INDIVIDUALS IT SERVES TO REALIZE THEIR GOALS TO CHOOSE WHERE AND HOW TO LIVE, LEARN, WORK, AND PLAY. IT IS THE STRONG BELIEF OF THE STAFF AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS THAT ALL INDIVIDUALS SERVED BY THE ARC ARE ENTITLED TO RESPECT, DIGNITY, AND A QUALITY OF LIFE EQUIVALENT TO THAT OF NON-DISABLED INDIVIDUALS IN THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY.

RESIDENTIAL SERVICES - THE TOTAL NUMBER OF PERSONS SERVED IN A RESIDENTIAL SETTING WAS 24. RESIDENTIAL SERVICES PROVIDES ADULTS WITH INTELLECTUAL/DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES (I/DD) THE OPPORTUNITY TO LIVE IN A RESIDENCE IN THE COMMUNITY, INSTEAD OF WITH PARENTS/RELATIVES OR IN AN INSTITUTION. STAFF ASSIST RESIDENTS WITH ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING WHILE SUPPORTING THEIR INDIVIDUAL GOALS AND PREFERENCES. STAFF OVERSIGHT AND GUIDANCE IS PROVIDED WHENEVER RESIDENTS ARE AT HOME. THE GOAL OF RESIDENTIAL SERVICES IS TO TEACH THE INDIVIDUAL SELF-CARE, DAILY LIVING SKILLS, AND SELF-MANAGEMENT SKILLS IN ORDER TO BECOME MORE INDEPENDENT AND SELF-SUFFICIENT. EACH RESIDENT HAS AN INDIVIDUALIZED PLAN WITH GOALS AND OBJECTIVES SPECIFIC TO HIS OR HER ABILITIES AND DESIRE TO LEARN. OBJECTIVE DATA IS TAKEN ON TRAINING PROGRAMS RELATED TO THESE PLANS, REGULAR REPORTS ARE MADE TO OVERSIGHT AGENTS, AND PLANS ARE UPDATED AT LEAST ANNUALLY OR AS THE PERSON LEARNS SKILLS AND INDICATES NEW PREFERENCES.
COMMUNITY INCLUSION - INCLUDES ADULT DAY TRAINING (ADT), VOCATIONAL TRAINING, AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM, AND SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM. THE ADT PROGRAM TAKES PLACE AT THE ARC'S KIRBY LOOP FACILITY DURING THE DAY, MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, FROM 9AM TO 3PM. A TOTAL OF 110 INDIVIDUALS WITH INTELLECTUAL/DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES (I/DD) PARTICIPATED IN THE PROGRAM, WHERE STAFF PROVIDE OVERSIGHT AND TRAINING IN SELF-CARE, NUTRITION, HEALTH AND SAFETY, DAILY LIVING SKILLS, SOCIALIZATION SKILLS, ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES, ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES, EXERCISE, RECREATION, AND COMMUNITY OUTINGS. EACH PERSON HAS AN INDIVIDUALIZED PLAN WITH GOALS AND OBJECTIVES SPECIFIC TO HIS OR HER ABILITIES AND DESIRE TO LEARN. OBJECTIVE DATA IS TAKEN ON TRAINING PROGRAMS RELATED TO THESE PLANS, REGULAR REPORTS ARE MADE TO OVERSIGHT AGENTS, AND PLANS ARE UPDATED AT LEAST ANNUALLY OR AS THE PERSON LEARNS SKILLS AND INDICATES NEW PREFERENCES. PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS ARE ALSO PROVIDED THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK AS VOLUNTEERS AT LOCAL BUSINESSES (E.G. TREASURE COAST FOOD BANK, ANASTASIA'S ATTIC, UNITED AGAINST POVERTY) AS PRE-VOCATIONAL TRAINING. VOCATIONAL TRAINING INCLUDES COLLABORATION WITH THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION (VR) IN PROVIDING EMPLOYMENT TRAINING AND FOLLOW-ALONG SUPPORT AFTER AN INDIVIDUAL OBTAINS A JOB IN THE COMMUNITY. THE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM SERVES CHILDREN/YOUTH BETWEEN THE AGES OF 5-22, AND PROVIDES TUTORING, ACADEMIC SKILLS TRAINING, SOCIAL SKILLS TRAINING, EXERCISE, RECREATION, POSITIVE PEER INTERACTIONS, AND MENTORING. TWENTY CHILDREN WITH INTELLECTUAL/DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES WERE SERVED BY THE PROGRAM. THE SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM PROVIDES EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE ALONG WITH UNIQUE LEARNING EXPERIENCES IN THE COMMUNITY. THE PROGRAM'S PRIMARY GOAL IS TO PREVENT ACADEMIC SKILL REGRESSION WHICH CAN OCCUR OVER THE SUMMER MONTHS WHEN ST. LUCIE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED. FORTY-FIVE CHILDREN/YOUTH PARTICIPATED IN THE SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM.
