OUR MISSION IS TO BREAK THE CYCLE OF POVERTY FOR CHILDREN OF HIGH NEED WORKING FAMILIES THROUGH QUALITY EARLY CHILDHOOD AND ELEMENTARY EDUCATION AND FAMILY STRENGTHENING PROGRAMS. OUR VISION IS FOR EVERY CHILD AND FAMILY TO HAVE THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL.
THIS YEAR WE RECEIVED TREMENDOUS SUPPORT FROM OUR COMMUNITY. COVID-19 MADE THIS OUR MOST CHALLENGING YEAR TO PROVIDE SERVICES AND PROGRAMS FOR OUR FAMILIES AND CHILDREN BUT WE PERSEVERED AND DID SO. AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR WE EXPANDED THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO INCLUDE ONE ADDITIONAL GRADE- FOURTH GRADE. THE CONSTRUCTION OF OUR NEW BUILDING SLOWED DOWN SLIGHTLY DUE TO COVID BUT WE EXPECT TO MOVE INTO THE NEW BUILDING IN LATE APRIL 2021. THE FAMILY PROGRAM CONTINUES TO EXPAND AND OFFER PREVENTATIVE AND RESTORATIVE SERVICES. THIS PAST YEAR WE CONTRACTED WITH AN ABA THERAPIST THROUGH A GRANT WITH THE CHILDREN'S SERVICES COUNCIL. OCCUPATIONAL, SPEECH, AND PHYSICAL THERAPY ARE OFFERED ONSITE TO OUR CHILDREN IN BOTH EDUCATION PROGRAMS. OUR FAMILY PROGRAM PARTNERED WITH THE SALVATION ARMY EARLY IN THE YEAR TO OFFER A 15 WEEK "GETTING AHEAD IN JUST GETTING BY WORLD" SERIES. PARENTS ALSO PARTICIPATED IN THE "HOW TO HELP YOUR CHILD BE SUCCESSFUL IN LIFE SERIES". IN MARCH WE CONVERTED TO ONLINE PARENT CLASSES DUE TO COVID, PROVIDED PARENTS WITH 7,500 IN GIFT CARDS AND 4,000 IN EMERGENCY FUNDS. WE HOSTED THE ADULT EDUCATION FAIR WITH LOCAL COLLEGES AND TECHNICAL SCHOOLS FOR OUR PARENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS. WE HELD THE 11TH ANNUAL UM MILLER SCHOOL OF MEDICINE HEALTH FAIR AT THE CENTER AND OVER 300 INDIVIDUALS RECEIVED FREE HEALTH SCREENINGS. THE CENTER CONTINUES TO BE ACCREDITED BY THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE EDUCATION OF YOUNG CHILDREN SERVING INFANTS THROUGH PRE-K4. PRIOR TO COVID, BOTH THE EARLY EDUCATION CENTER AND THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OFFERED BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE OPENING AT 6:30AM AND CLOSING AT 6:00PM. WE HAD TO ADJUST OUR HOURS FOR THE EARLY EDUCATION PROGRAM, AND NOW ARE OPEN FROM 7:30AM-5PM. DURING COVID WE PIVOTED AND OFFERED BOTH ON-LINE CLASSES AND SET-UP LEARNING PODS FOR STUDENTS ATTENDING IN PERSON. WE HAD THREE PODS AT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND A POD FOR BCPS CHILDREN AT THE CENTER. THE EARLY EDUCATION CENTER WAS ONLY CLOSED FOR SIX WEEKS AND WE PROVIDED SUPPORT TO OUR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES DURING THAT TIME. JACK & JILL PARTNERED WITH FEEDING SOUTH FLORIDA AND BECAME ONE OF THE FOOD DISTRIBUTION SITES FOR BROWARD COUNTY. WE PROVIDED OVER 2,500 FAMILIES WITH FOOD. WE PARTICIPATED IN SUMMER BREAKSPOT FOOD DISTRIBUTION AS WELL PROVIDING BREAKFASTS AND LUNCHES TO CHILDREN UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE. ULTIMATELY, JACK & JILL WAS ABLE TO PROVIDE SERVICES AND PROGRAMS FOR OUR FAMILIES, CHILDREN AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS DURING A HARDSHIP YEAR IN A SAFE NURTURING AND LOVING ENVIRONMENT.
