Organizations Filed Purposes:
OUR MISSION IS TO DISMANTLE STRUCTURAL POVERTY AND SPUR ECONOMIC MOBILITY AT A GRASSROOTS LEVEL.
COMMUNITY SPRING FELLOWSHIP. WE HIRE PEOPLE IN POVERTY TO WORK ON THE ISSUES THAT THEY FEEL CONTRIBUTE TO THE CYCLE OF POVERTY. WE ARE, THEREFORE, PROVIDING AN INCOME TO PEOPLE IN POVERTY AND CULTIVATING POWER TO MAKE SYSTEMIC CHANGES IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. THIS PAST YEAR WE EMPLOYED FOUR FELLOWS DURING AN UNPRECEDENTED TIME OF UNCERTAINTY AND UNEMPLOYMENT CAUSED BY COVID-19. THE COMMUNITY SPRING FELLOWS DECIDED TO TARGET THEIR EFFORTS ON SUPPORTING THEIR COMMUNITY DURING THIS GLOBAL PANDEMIC. FIRST, THEY DESIGNED AND IMPLEMENTED A COMMUNITY-BASED SURVEY THAT ASSESSED THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 AND COMPARED COVID'S IMPACT ACROSS INCOME CATEGORIES. BASED ON THE RESULTS OF THIS ASSESSMENT, FELLOWS DESIGNED AND IMPLEMENTED A CASH ASSISTANCE PROGRAM TO ADDRESS THE DISPARITIES IN HOUSING, EMPLOYMENT, WELL-BEING, AND ACCESS TO FOOD AMONG LOW-INCOME RESPONDENTS. FELLOWS ALSO CONDUCTED AN EDUCATIONAL CAMPAIGN TO SPREAD AWARENESS OF OUR SURVEY FINDINGS. FELLOWS AND STAFF GAVE FIVE PRESENTATIONS ON OUR RESEARCH TO OVER 100 COMMUNITY LEADERS INCLUDING THE MAYOR, CITY MANAGER, AND COMMISSIONERS, PARTICIPATED IN EIGHT TV INTERVIEWS, QUOTED IN NINE PRINT MEDIA PUBLICATIONS, DRAFTED TWO PRESS RELEASES, AND WROTE TWO OP-EDS. THEY ALSO WROTE BLOGS ON THESE ECONOMIC DISPARITIES WITH APPROXIMATELY 870 READERS. AS A RESULT OF THEIR PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AT COMMUNITY SPRING, TWO OF THE FOUR FELLOWS SECURED STABLE EMPLOYMENT AT ANTI-POVERTY NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS. ONE FELLOW HAS UTILIZED THE BUDGETING, PROGRAM MANAGEMENT, AND MARKETING SKILLS DEVELOPED AT COMMUNITY SPRING TO SIGNIFICANTLY GROW HER CLEANING BUSINESS. AND THE FOURTH FELLOW USED THE INCOME FROM COMMUNITY SPRING TO SECURE STABLE HOUSING AFTER A LONG HISTORY OF HOMELESSNESS.
