Organizations Filed Purposes:
The American Legion was Charted in 1919 as a Patriotic War-Time Veterans Organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is a community service organization with nearly 3 million members in nearly 15,000 posts worldwide. It continuously seeks programs that provide direct benefits
As part of its mission to provide a social environment for our 500+ members, the Legion hosted several dances, patriotic events, dinners, breakfasts, bingo parties, and other events. Donations and bingo revenues received at these events helped to cover the costs.
In pursuit of its vision of mutual helpfulness, the Legion expended monies to support various charities, including the Veterans Memorial Committee, Alachua County Veterans Advisory Board, The VA Fisher House Foundation, Wreaths Across America, University of Florida ROTC, three local high school ROTC programs, Homeless Veterans Stand Down, VetSpace (for Homeless veterans). The Legion also contributed to three veterans GI Bridge scholarships at Santa Fe College.
As part of our mission of support for veterans we expended $2502 as cash donations to area veterans in need and to families of deceased or wounded veterans.
