Organizations Filed Purposes: THE MISSION OF THE JACKSONVILLE CHILDREN'S CHORUS IS TO PROVIDE HIGH- QUALITY CHORAL MUSIC EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN OF DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS, FOSTERING TEAMWORK, SELF-DISCIPLINE, ACCOMPLISHMENT AND PRIDE, WHILE FILLING AN IMPORTANT CULTURAL NEED IN THE COMMUNITY AND SHARING THE BEAUTY OF THE CHORAL ART FORM THROUGH ARTISTICALLY EXCELLENT PERFORMANCES. THIS IS ACHIEVED THROUGH WEEKLY REHEARSALS WHERE CHILDREN, AGES 6-18, IN THE VARIOUS CHOIRS (TRAINING, TREBLE, TOURING, CONCERT, LYRIC AND YOUNG MEN'S CHORUS) DEVELOP AND HONE THEIR SKILLS. THE CHILDREN PERFORM THROUGHOUT NORTHEAST FLORIDA FOR A VARIETY OF AUDIENCES IN A VAST ARRAY OF VENUES. JCC SELF-PRODUCES SIX CONCERTS PER YEAR. THIRTY-SEVEN PERCENT OF THE CHILDREN RECEIVE FULL OR PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS, ENABLING A DIVERSE REPRESENTATION FROM THE COMMUNITY.

THE ANNUAL FIRST COAST HONORS CHOIR FESTIVAL IS IN ITS 17TH YEAR. THIS FESTIVAL IS DESIGNED FOR AREA MIDDLE SCHOOL CHILDREN WHO HAVE BEEN SELECTED BY THEIR MUSIC TEACHERS TO PARTICIPATE. STUDENTS COME FROM BOTH PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS. THIS YEAR 190 MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS PARTICIPATED, REPRESENTING 180 AREA SCHOOLS. DURING THE FESTIVAL, STUDENTS ARE EXPOSED TO NEW AND DIFFERENT TYPES OF MUSIC AND ARE LED BY A GUEST CLINICIAN. AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE DAY-LONG WORKSHOP, PARENTS AND FAMILY MEMBERS ARE TREATED TO A CONCERT WHERE THE SINGERS PRESENT WHAT THEY HAVE LEARNED THROUGHOUT THE DAY'S EVENTS.

OUR PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS ARE DESIGNED FOR CHILDREN AGES 18 MONTHS TO 5 YEARS. EACH CHILD, ALONG WITH THEIR PARENTS OR CAREGIVERS, EXPERIENCE SINGING, CREATIVE MOVEMENT, SIMPLE INSTRUMENTS, AND FINGER PLAYS WITH HELP FORM A RICH COLLECTION OF TRADITIONAL SONGS, RHYMES, AND LITERATURE. MUSIC IGNITES ALL AREAS OF CHILD DEVELOPMENT: INTELLECTUAL, SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL, LANGUAGE, MEMORY AND OVERALL LITERACY.EXPOSING CHILDREN TO MUSIC DURING EARLY DEVELOPMENT HELPS THEM LEARN THE SOUNDS AND MEANINGS OF WORDS AS THEY EXPLORE VOCAL SOUNDS AND SINGING. DANCING TO MUSIC HELPS CHILDREN BUILD MOTOR SKILLS WHILE ALLOWING THEM TO PRACTICE SELF-EXPRESSION. FOR TODDLERS AND PRE-SCHOOLERS, MUSIC IS MAKING A DYNAMIC SOCIAL LEARNING EXPERIENCE - POTENTIALLY PREPARING THEM FOR FUTURE PARTICIPATION IN THE JACKSONVILLE CHILDREN'S CHORUS' PERFORMING CHOIRS. WHILE MAKING MUSIC TOGETHER, CHILDREN LEARN TEAMWORK AS THEY CONTRIBUTE TO SONGS AND LEARN THAT TOGETHER THEY CAN MAKE SOMETHING BETTER THAN THEY COULD INDIVIDUALLY.
