Athletic & Sports Programs: The Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program (JSMP) is a volunteer-based organization that is dedicated to the prevention, awareness and advocacy of youth sports related injuries. JSMP strives to assist athletes and coaches through the delivery of free sports medicine healthcare services by physicians, licensed athletic trainers and other members of the sports medicine team who (1) promote injury prevention strategies through education, pre-participation screening and injury tracking, (2) provide injury recognition, assessment and treatment through supervision of sporting events, (3) facilitate emergency treatment in collaboration with emergency medical professionals in regard to sports-specific accidents, and (4) provide continuing education programming. The program provided computer-based concussion baseline assessments for more than 500 athletes and these were performed at 8 schools in the Jacksonville community free of charge. In 2019, 526 athletic screenings were performed free of charge for student-athletes regardless of their ability to pay. Due to the complexity and content of these exams, they are valued at $250 per student for a grand total of $131,500 benefit to the community. Physician members of JSMP volunteered 375 hours of service (99 games per regular season and 18 post season events) as team physicians for community schools. Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC's) volunteered 100 hours of service (132 games per regular season) as athletic trainers for community schools. Using a conservative volunteer hour value in Florida of $150.00/hr. physician service, the estimated cash value of the volunteer hours provided exceeded $56,250. In 2019, Educational programming consisted of 4 Project 17 Lunch & Learns, our 10th Annual Symposium, Annual Emergency Preparations course, FASMed Collaborative Solutions and three additional courses. The total attendance for these events was approximately 325, resulting in the delivery of 2,132 hours of continuing medical education CME, BOC Category A CEU & BOC EBP CEU at a significantly reduced cost with a total value of more than $63,960.
