Organizations Filed Purposes: We believe every child deserves the love of a family. Selamta Family Project creates Forever Families for orphaned and abandoned children in Ethiopia. Selamta is transitioning children out of institutions and into families. We provide critical, trauma-informed, wrap around care to each of our families.

There is so much to celebrate in 2019. In the summer, Selamta established a new Kids' Center and began receiving children from the government institutions. These children, along with Selamta trained moms and aunties, will establish our second generation of Forever Families in 2020. Educationally, our children benefited from reading groups, team tutorials, SAT/GRE prep class, and attended new schools to meet their specific needs. From our first generation, seven students graduated from universities, colleges and vocational programs. Trauma informed care continues to be a major focus of our psychosocial team. Trauma informed care trainings for our team and group workshops for our moms and aunties have equipped our families with the tools they need to promote healing. Health & Wellness, another of the 4 cornerstones that build our foundation of family, included health care workshops, updated vaccinations, blood donations, and access to specialized care - often difficult to source in Ethiopia. Spiritually, our families continue to develop personal relationships with God through weekly Bible studies, Young Life Camp and leadership opportunities, English Summer Camp, mentor movie nights, and community/prayer groups. Eight youths launched to independent life with full time jobs, the capacity to budget, navigate adult life, and still remain an important part of their Forever Families even as they establish their own families in the future.
