Organizations Filed Purposes:
ESTABLISHED IN 1985, THE FLORIDA LITERACY COALITION PROMOTES, SUPPORTS AND ADVOCATES FOR THE EFFECTIVE DELIVERY OF QUALITY ADULT AND FAMILY LITERACY SERVICES IN FLORIDA. AS A STATEWIDE UMBRELLA LITERACY ORGANIZATION AND THE HOST OF FLORIDA'S ADULT AND FAMILY LITERACY RESOURCE CENTER, FLC PROVIDES A RANGE OF SERVICES TO SUPPORT MORE THAN 250 ADULT EDUCATION, LITERACY AND FAMILY LITERACY PROVIDERS THROUGHOUT FLORIDA. SPECIAL EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON ASSISTING COMMUNITY BASED LITERACY ORGANIZATIONS WITH THEIR TRAINING AND PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT NEEDS.
THROUGH THE SUPPORT OF THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND OTHER CORPORATE, GOVERNMENT, FOUNDATION AND INDIVIDUAL SUPPORTERS, THE FLORIDA LITERACY COALITION (FLC) OFFERS A RANGE OF SERVICES WHICH INCLUDE: -FLORIDA LITERACY CONFERENCE: THE 2020 CONFERENCE WAS HELD VIRTUALLY RATHER THAN IN PERSON DUE TO COVID-19 SAFETY CONCERNS ON JUNE 25-26, 2020. ELEVEN SESSIONS WERE OFFERED TO 269 PARTICIPANTS. -PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING OFFERINGS INCLUDING OVER 25 WORKSHOPS, WEBINARS, ONLINE COURSES AND THE 2020 ADULT LITERACY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE. -RESOURCE SHARING, CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS, VIA FLC WEBSITE, NEWSLETTER, EMAIL AND SOCIAL MEDIA. -FLORIDA ADULT EDUCATION AND LITERACY HOTLINE REFERRAL SERVICE, WHICH MADE APPROXIMATELY 14,000 REFERRALS FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS AND VOLUNTEERS TO PROGRAMS IN THEIR COMMUNITY. -PUBLICATION OF A STATEWIDE ADULT LEARNER ESSAY BOOK. -FLORIDA HEALTH LITERACY INITIATIVE, WHICH PROVIDED GRANTS, TRAINING AND SUPPORT TO 14 ORGANIZATIONS, SERVING APPROXIMATELY 2,500 STUDENTS DURING THE YEAR. -FLORIDA FINANCIAL LITERACY INITIATIVE, WHICH PROVIDED GRANTS, TRAINING AND SUPPORT TO 8 ORGANIZATIONS.
