To improve the quality of life for individuals and families affected by serious mental illnesses, through education, support and advocacy.
NAMI Collier County provides a variety of programs and services to ensure resiliency and recovery for those with mental health challenges. An emergency fund addresses barriers to optimal mental health providing items such as bus passes, or medication co-pays. The Community Outreach and Peer Educations (COPEs) Certified Recovery Peer Specialists provide individual and group peer supports, and outreach to local mental health agencies, and the local jail. The peer-run Sarah Ann Drop In Center offers a day-time safe haven to adults, most of whom are disabled due to serious mental illnesses, to enjoy social, emotional, and educational supports. Sarah Ann provides a hot meal six days a week, a clothing closet, and a food pantry. The HUD- funded Emergency Solutions Grant provides rental assistance helping homeless individuals with mental illnesses get off the streets and into recovery.
The goal of Self-Directed Care (FloridaSDC) is to respect and promote self-determination, recovery and full community inclusion for people who have been diagnosed with a mental illness and who depend on government subsidized mental wellness services. Originating in 2005, the program serves over 90 people in the 20th Judicial Circuit of Florida including Collier, Lee, Charlotte, Hendry, and Glades counties.
HUGS (Health Under Guided Systems) is NAMI of Collier Countys childrens mental health program providing screening and early identification for over 1600 children each year. HUGS System Navigator staff educate and support families while addressing barriers to accessing mental health care for their children. The program also provides an evidence-based in-home parenting program to help families learn effective, nurturing child rearing practices.
