DRUG FREE COLLIER IS A COALITION OF CONCERNED CITIZENS WORKING TO PROTECT LOCAL CHILDREN FROM SUBSTANCE ABUSE. ESTABLISHED IN 2005 WITH THE HELP OF KEY FIGURES IN OUR COMMUNITY, DRUG FREE COLLIER COLLABORATES WITH KEY PARTNERS TO IDENTIFY CONCERNS AND DEVELOP SOLUTIONS FOR THE REDUCTION OF DRUG AND ALCOHOL USE AMONG TEENS IN COLLIER COUNTY.
OPERATION MEDICINE CABINET - A DRUG FREE COLLIER(DFC)TRADEMARKED INITIAITIVE FOR TAKE BACK OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS. DFC HELD OVER 30 OMC EVENTS COLLECTING AND REMOVING IN EXCESS OF 50 POUNDS OF UNUSED PRESCRIPTION DRUGS AT SENIOR/ASSISTED LIVING FACILITIES. DFC COLLABORATED WITH COLLIER SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT TO DISTRIBUTE OVER 1,000 OPERATION MEDICINE CABINET LOCATION FLYERS AT RECYCLING FACILITIES AND DURING ROUND UP EVENTS AT GOODWILL. DFC PARTICIPATED IN THE DEA NATIONAL TAKE BACK EVENT OPERATING AT FOUR OF OUR PERMANENT LOCATIONS COLLECTING IN EXCESS OF 25 POUNDS OF UNUSED MEDICATIONS. IN DECEMBER 2017, HAZARDOUS WASTE ROUND UP COLLECTED OVER 500 POUNDS OF UNWANTED MEDICATIONS.
CORE SOCIETY - THE CORE ACRONYM STANDS FOR CHARACTER, OPPOSING DRUGS, RESPONSIBLE CHOICES, AND EXPECTATIONS. THE CORE SOCIETY IS A GROUP OF STUDENTS WHOSE PURPOSE IS TO IMPROVE THEIR HIGH SCHOOL COMMUNITY BY UNITING TOGETHER AGAINST ALL FORMS OF HARMFUL SUBSTANCES. THEIR MISSION IS TO OFFER FELLOW STUDENTS DRUG FREE ALTERNATIVES AND THE SUPPORT NEEDED TO MAINTAIN A HEALTHY AND DRUG-FREE LIFESTYLE. CORE CLUBS ARE THRIVING AT 5 COLLIER MIDDLE SCHOOLS AND FIVE COLLIER HIGH SCHOOLS. EACH CLUB AVERAGES APPROXIMATELY 25 STUDENTS. CLUBS ARE SET TO OPEN AT 2 ADDITIONAL SCHOOLS. DRUG FREE COLLIER BROUGHT IN GUEST SPEAKERS TO DELIVER SPECIFIC MESSAGES REGARDING SUBSTANCE MISUSE TO CORE CLUBS. CVS PHAMACY'S DIVERSION DIVISION HAS BROUGHT THEIR "ONE CHOICE" PRESENTATION ABOUT THE DANGERS OF OPIODS AND PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION ABUSE TO SELECT CORE CLUBS. MORE "ONE CHOICE" PRESENTATIONS WILL TAKE PLACE DURING THE SPRING SEMESTER AT THE REMAINIG SCHOOLS. DRUG FREE COLLIER SPOKE TO ALL STUDENTS IN THE 6 COLLIER MIDDLE SCHOOLS( APPROXIMATELY 20,000 STUDENTS) ABOUT BULLYING AND CYBER BULLYING AND HOW TO HANDLE AND STOP IT. THE MONTH OF OCTOBER WAS ESPECIALLY BUSY FOR OUT CORE CLUBS. EACH CLUB PARTICIPATED IN DEVELOPING THEIR SCHOOL'S RED RIBBBON WEEK CAMPAIGNS. MULTIPLE SCHOOLS DEVELOPED THEME DAYS FOR THE WEEK, TYING EACH DAY TO AN ANTI-DRUG MESSAGE AND ALLOWING STUDENTS TO DRESS UP AND HAVE FUN. OTHER CLUBS PASSED OUT RED RIBBONS OR RED CANDY TO STUDENTS, WHICH ALLOWED THEM TOI START CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THE MEANING BEHIND RED RIBBON WEEK.
COMMUNITY AWARENESS PRESENTATIONS - DRUG FREE COLLIER WORKS TIRELESSLY TO RAISE AWARENESS AND PROVIDE ESSENTIAL TOOLS FOR TODAY'S BUSY PARENTS AND GRAND PARENTS AS WELL AS CRITICAL EMPOWERMENT SKILLS FOR TEENAGERS. OUR COALITION REACHED OVER 30,000 STUDENTS AND OVER 15,000 PARENTS, EDUCATORS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS WITH MESSAGING ON THE OPIOD CRISIS, MARIJUANA EFFECTS ON DEVELOPING BRAINS, SYNTHETIC DRUGS, VAPING, AND HOW TO PROPERLY DISPOSE OF MEDICATIONS AND HOW PRESCRIPTION DRUGS ENTER THE STREET DRUG SUPPLY.
