IN PALM BEACH COUNTY (FLORIDA): HANDS TOGETHER FOR HAITIANS STRIVES TO ASSIST THE HAITIAN IMMIGRANT POPULATION WITH THE TRANSITION FROM LIVING IN THEIR NATIVE COUNTRY TO LIVING IN THE U.S. THIS GOAL ADDRESSES A MULTITUDE OF ISSUES INCLUDING: EDUCATION, HEALTH CARE, LANGUAGE AND CULTURAL BARRIERS, ACCESS TO SOCIAL RESOURCES, GUIDANCE AND MEETING DAILY NEEDS SUCH AS FOOD NEEDS. IN HAITI: HANDS TOGETHER FOR HAITIANS STRIVES TO BUILD SUSTAINABLE PROGRAMS TO SUPPORT THOSE WHO ARE SUFFERING FROM A LACK OF ADEQUATE NUTRITION, HEALTH CARE, EDUCATION,EMPLOYMENT AND SOCIAL PROGRAMS. OUR PHILOSPOHY IS TO HELP HAITIANS HELP HAITIANS.
U.S. OUTREACH AND EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT: DUE TO COVID-19, OUTREACH FOR 2020 WAS MUCH GREATER THAN OTHER YEARS. HANDS TOGETHER FOR HAITIANS (HTH) PROVIDED FUNDS FOR BASIC NEEDS SUCH AS FOOD, TRANSPORTATION, RENT ASSISTANCE, UTILITY ASSISTANCE, HOUSING, HOLIDAY GIFTS, AND FOOD GIFT CARDS. HTH PROVIDED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO APPROXIMATELY 150 PEOPLE, WITH AVERAGE ASSISTANCE OF 200 PER PERSON. THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS INCLUDED ADULT COMPUTER / CAREER ADVANCEMENT CLASSES, ADULT BASIC LITERACY CLASSES, FINANCIAL LITERACY PRESENTATIONS, A CHILDREN'S ENRICHMENT PROGRAM, AND A HEALTH LITERACY PROGRAM. EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS WERE PLACED ON HOLD IN APRIL 2020 DUE TO COVID-19.
HAITI EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT AND OUTREACH: HANDS TOGETHER FOR HAITIANS (HTH) SUPPORTS THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMS IN HAITI: EDUCATIONAL: 1) 31,535 FOR THE NOTRE DAME DU FATIMA GRADE SCHOOL IN JEANDENIS: TEACHER AND STAFF SALARIES, A SCHOOL HEALTH CLINIC INCLUDING A CLINIC NURSE AND MEDICATIONS, A COMPUTER LAB IN THE SCHOOL, AND SUPPLIES FOR THE SCHOOL. THERE ARE 200+ CHILDREN AND 19 STAFF, 2) 11,835 FOR THE BOUCAN CARRE SACRED HEART GRADE SCHOOL: TEACHER AND STAFF SALARIES, FOOD FOR THE CHILDREN 3 TIMES PER WEEK, AND SUPPLIES, 3) 14,795 FOR HEALTH EDUCATION AND COVID SUPPLIES: HTH PROVIDED COVID MITIGATION EDUCATION TO OVER 20,000 PEOPLE LIVING IN 3 AREAS OF HAITI, MOSTLY RURAL AREAS. HTH SUPPORTED THE PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION OF FACE MASKS TO 850 HAITIAN PEOPLE OUTREACH: HANDS TOGETHER FOR HAITIANS PROVIDED A TOTAL OF 20,565, DISTRIBUTED TO APPROXIMATELY 750-800 INDIVIDUALS OVER THE PAST YEAR. THESE FUNDS SUPPORTED MOSTLY FOOD NEEDS, BUT ALSO HOUSING COSTS, TRANSPORTATION, MEDICINE, HEALTH CARE, AND CLOTHING.
FOOD PANTRY: DUE TO COVID-19, HANDS TOGETHER FOR HAITIANS (HTH) OPENED A FOOD PANTRY IN APRIL 2020 AFTER PLACING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS ON HOLD. THE FOOD PANTRY PROVIDED A BOX OF NUTRITIOUS FOOD, INCLUDING MEATS, VEGETABLES, FRUITS, MILK, CHEESE, EGGS, AND CANNED/DRIED GOOD TO AN AVERAGE OF 200 FAMILIES PER WEEK, SERVING 4000+ INDIVIDUALS PER MONTH. THIS PROGRAM IS ONGOING TODAY. FUNDS PROVIDE GAS/TIME STIPENDS TO A TEAM OF 10-15 INDIVIDUALS WHO PICK UP THE FOOD FROM VARIOUS LOCATIONS, UNLOAD THE FOOD AT THE HTH OFFICE, REFRIGERATE FOOD AS NEEDED, REPACK BOXES FOR DISTRIBUTION, AND DISTRIBUTE THE FOOD. FUNDS IN THIS CATEGORY ALSO PURCHASED SUPPLIES FOR THE FOOD PANTRY, SUCH AS CLEANING SUPPLIES, HAND SANITIZER, FOOD, STORAGE ITEMS, 3 FREEZERS, AND SHELVING FOR THE FOOD PANTRY.
