Mrs. Angela Muns, a United States Airforce Lt. Colonel, was a registered nurse who served during World War II. Her love of her military service and of her chosen profession led to the establishment of a nursing scholarship to ensure that those wanting to excel in the field of nursing had the opportunity to obtain a nursing degree.This scholarship trust was established in recognition of the exceptional care they received. The legacy scholarships enable students to pursue nursing degrees. Post-graduation, the trust stipulates that they continue their career in an acute healthcare facility for up to an additional two years. Qualified applicants/recipients must be enrolled in a certified nursing program in Marion County and maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout the duration of their schooling. Since assuming administration of the scholarship, the Foundation has given a total of $191,500 in awards.
The ARC Marion Foundation, Inc. was an organization established to philanthropically support ARC Marion Inc. and its programming that improves the care and training of individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities in Ocala/Marion County. Upon their dissolution in 2014, the board of directors of ARC Marion Foundation established Scholarships to be administered by the Community Foundation of Ocala/Marion County for the direct needs of individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities at ARC Marion Inc. As of the end of 2019, the Community Foundation has administered $153,020 in total awards.
The Community Foundation manages a variety of different types of funds to meet the needs of nonprofits, businesses and individuals. The Foundation assists donors in an effort to research community needs and develop a strategic plan for giving that will ultimately benefit the Ocala/Marion County community. At the end of 2019, the Foundation was managing 10 Agency funds, 8 Endowment funds, 15 Donor Advised Funds, 1 Corporate Advised Fund, 4 Scholarship funds, 2 Capital Campaign funds, 2 Pass-through funds and 1 Annuity fund.
